Important Message from Dr. Shelmire
New High School Naming and Mascot
Good Morning!
I am thrilled to be reaching out to families who are living within the boundaries of our district’s newest high school. No matter the age of your current student, as the new high school principal, I look forward to working with you to create a welcoming school for every student, every day. Construction on our new high school is moving along nicely and scheduled to be completed next summer for the start of the 2021-2022 school year. Please feel free to follow me on Twitter and Instagram to stay up-to-date with the latest progress of the high school.

I am also excited to share with you an opportunity to submit ideas for naming our new school as well as ideas for a school mascot. All students currently in grades K-10 in the new high school boundaries, as well as their family members, are welcome to submit name and mascot ideas via this form. Individuals may submit multiple entries between now and September 4, and I would encourage you to research and consider the history surrounding the school’s location when considering a name. I will narrow the list in consultation with Dr. Cain and members of his cabinet and make a recommendation to the Board of Education at their regular meeting on September 17. If the name selected by the Board was submitted by only one individual, that individual will be recognized by myself and in District communication regarding the new name.
Please be on the lookout the week of August 24 for information related to attending the new high school. Current freshmen and sophomores will have the choice to attend the new high school or remain at their current school. Juniors will remain at their current school for their senior year. Families will have until the end of September to make this important decision. While this date may seem early, it is necessary in order to staff the building appropriately to meet our students’ needs.
I am extremely honored to serve as the new high school principal beginning next school year. I look forward to getting to know more about your aspirations and hopes for our new school as we work together to build it. Thank you for taking the time to submit ideas. Your voice is important and valued. You will find that my door is always open, and I am truly committed to supporting you in any way possible.
Your proud principal,
Dr. Amanda Shelmire
