Pawfully Playful!
We are so proud of our Pawsitively Playful pals! They have learned our coming and going routines and are so independent putting away their backpacks, hanging up their coats, taking turns in line, and zipping up their coats! We have continued The Gingerbread Man and our gingerbread bakery, and we have added gingerbread house building blocks, a gingerbread forest, and a sensory forest play area that also focuses on the concepts of big, medium and small as well as using tools that help the students learn correct hand positioning for holding scissors. We met our new friend, Bear, and his woodland friends, and studied bears, foxes, and deer in the science center (maybe you know a herd of deer, but did you know a group of foxes is called a skulk and a group of bears is called a sloth or a sleuth?). Next week we will begin different types of holidays!
Developmental Dot!🔵
Did you know that proper scissor skills begin with ripping? Scissor skills follow their own developmental sequence from holding the scissors (with the thumb up to the ceiling!), to snipping, and then cutting more complex shapes like angles and curves. Good scissor skills also take more than just fine motor development. Children need to be able to coordinate their eyes with shapes on the page and the motor use of the scissors. They also need to demonstrate bilateral coordination by holding the scissors in one hand and the paper in the other. It is important to have the right kind of scissors and to practice with adult supervision. If you would like to learn more about scissor use and development in children, consult an occupational therapist. Here is one online therapy resource: https://playteachrepeat.com/the-stages-scissor-skills/.

Attendance Matters
As the school year starts to get underway, we want to remind parents about the importance of school attendance. It is important to minimize absences whenever possible. We ask families to do whatever they can to schedule appointments outside the school day. Also, please try to schedule family trips that avoid you child missing multiple days of school.

CJSH Athletics
Hello Clinton Community School District Families,
We had an exciting week at CJSH. The Boys Basketball team split the week with a loss on Monday evening at Marshall, but were able to get a win on Thursday over Brodhead. The girls basketball team took two tough losses over the week, but they played two tough teams in Turner and Evansville. The girls continue to get better each and every week. The wrestling team had a great showing at their tournament over the weekend.
