St. Cecilia Spotlight - Oct 23
OCTOBER 23, 2024
KATY DAVIS LANE
Thank you to the Davis Family for coming out and dedicating our new road! Katy Davis Lane is now open. The road will be closed during the middle of the school day to allow our students to safely play in the upper lot and soccer field for recess. Thank you for your patience as we iron out the kinks.
UPCOMING DATES/INFORMATION
HURRICANE RELIEF PROJECT - $1 DONATION
On Friday, October 25th we will be having a jersey/sports day where you can wear your favorite team jersey/shirt with out-of-uniform bottoms. This jersey/shirt can be any sports team of your choice (pro, collegiate, high school, etc.)
Bring in a $1 donation (on Friday the 25th) to help raise money for St. John Vianney school in the St. Petersburg diocese in Florida. If any family would like to donate more than the minimum you may. Any checks must be written to St. Cecilia School.
You may be wondering why we are doing this. St. John Vianney school was hit by both hurricanes, Milton and Helene. The 248 students from St. John Vianney in kindergarten through middle school have been going to temporary classrooms since their school was flooded with wastewater. The assistant principal says, “It was very emotional. It has been my home for 14 years. Walking in and seeing that school was devastating,” Rivera said. “To have the generosity of other Catholic schools, everyone has really stepped up.” We want this to be our amazing STC community! The money from the out-of-uniform day will go directly to the school to help reopen St. John Vianney.
Thank you for your generosity,
Rylee Fuller (Grade 8), Molly Ryan (Grade 8), Mckenzie Meyer (Grade 8), Chloe Mock (Grade 8), and Kylie Wood (Grade 8)
HALLOWEEN COSTUMES/PARTIES
Halloween will be observed on Thursday, October 31 at St. Cecilia. Class parties will begin at 1:00pm. Students may wear a costume, however the following guidelines are expected to be used.
No face paint, makeup, eyelashes, colored hair or wigs
Faces must be visible at all times and students must be easily recognizable
No portrayal of evil/satan
Boys will portray boy characteristics and girls will portray girl characteristics
Students may wear headgear (tiara, hat, etc.); however, if it becomes a distraction teachers may ask for them to be put away
No prop weapons
If a student does not want to wear a costume, they may wear jeans/pants and a fall/Halloween shirt of some type. Think flannel, pumpkins, etc. As always, keep it within the general school dress code. A good rule of thumb is, if you have to ask, the answer is probably no.
DRESS CODE
NO UNIFORM SHORTS AFTER OCTOBER 31
Please take a moment to refamiliarize yourself with the dress code. No shorts are permitted to be worn after October 31st.
- Gym Shorts: If a student prefers to take gym class in shorts, they will need to either wear their gym shorts with leggings underneath or wear the gym shorts underneath their sweatpants. The tights/leggings must be tight-fitting on the leg and be ankle length. Capri-length leggings are not permitted. Leggings are not permitted to be worn in place of uniform pants. During the winter months (November 1 – March 31) girls may wear plain navy blue sweatpants under their uniform during arrival, recess, and dismissal.

However, shoes must be brought to school to change into during the school day.
RELATED ARTS REVIEW
STEAM
Welcome to this new feature of the Weekly newsletter. One of our related arts teachers will share weekly information about their classes. If you have any comments or questions please contact that teacher. We are excited to share our related arts news with you.
This week we are featuring our STEAM Program. All students meet for STEAM each week. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. STEAM education is an approach to teaching and learning that integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts, and math as pathways to guide student inquiry, discussions, and critical thinking.
For the past several weeks the middle school students have been looking at thrust, velocity, pros and cons of various transportation modes, including hovercraft, rocket, and airplane. We did a comparison, contrast of these as well as charting the pros and cons of each. Students then “tested” these modes of transportation. Finally, students evaluated each mode of transportation and drew their conclusions. Needless to say, the students had a great time with a variety of activities.

Festivities begin the night of Saturday, November 23rd, with the St. Cecilia Homecoming Family Dance, from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm. Join us for a fun-filled evening with the entire St. Cecilia community family. It will be a night filled with music, dancing, photo booths and of course, food and drinks! The evening will conclude with the presentation of this year’s Cecilian Award. To help defer the cost of the event, we will request donations of $5 per person or $20 per family. Ticket sales will also help us anticipate the expected attendance.
Our Homecoming weekend continues on Sunday, November 24th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm as we come together for an afternoon of food, fellowship, and fun. There will be plenty of games & activities for kids of all ages including face-painting, and contests with prizes. For adults attending Homecoming there will be fun too-beer, wine, split-the-pot, bingo, football on the big screen to name a few. Everyone attending must check in at the Welcome Table to receive a map for the event. Make your Homecoming journey around the undercroft and get your map stamped at every station to be entered into a prize raffle at 4 pm.
We are excited to host this NEW event, our 1st Annual St. Cecilia Homecoming. Our hope is that it will become a long-running tradition here in our community. Our Parish Council and Homecoming Committee have one objective for this event and that is to provide ALL parishioners a wonderful opportunity to come together in fellowship to make new friendships and strengthen others. Let’s welcome this opportunity to meet new people and discover the amazing plethora of community involvement and life enrichment opportunities that St. Cecilia has to offer. St. C. is truly the place to be!
