Presentations
- The Board of Education received a presentation of New Hires.
Marlena Arbrun, Director of MOTF
Mrs. Arbrun is originally from King City and currently resides here. She began working in facilities because she believes in the importance of providing safe and engaging environments.
Mrs. Arbrun began in facilities as the administrative assistant to Plant Operations at Mee Memorial Hospital before moving into school facilities as the Operations Secretary at SMCJUHSD. She most recently served as the Operations Coordinator for King City High School. Mrs. Arbrun has completed two leadership academies with the Coalition for Adequate School Housing. In her new role as Maintenance, Operations, Transportation and Facilities Director, she is excited to work alongside all staff and community members to provide exciting facilities for our students and staff that support educational success.
Roseanna Guerrero, Assistant Superintendent of Business Services
Mrs. Guerrero is originally from Salinas, CA, but she had a vibrant youth as a military child. In her later years, she established roots in Fort Ord and completed her education in California. Her business career began with the State of California as a Tax Auditor, before transitioning to school business. Mrs. Guerrero chose school business because she wanted to put her efforts towards a cause she could believe in… that every hour and dollar invested in our schools should advance our educational mission and support student success.
Mrs. Guerrero earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Cal State Monterey Bay, her Master's degree in Education with a concentration in School Business Leadership from Wilkes University, and is a certified Chief Business Official by the California Association of School Business Officials. She has served as both Manager and Director of Payroll & Retirement at the Monterey County Office of Education, as well as Director of Fiscal Services at the Alisal Union School District. Mrs. Guerrero lives in Salinas, California. In her new role as Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, she is excited to work with the Board and staff on stewarding our district's resources, supporting educational excellence, and keeping our students at the center of our decisions.
Superintendent Report
Superintendent Dr. Cota recognized Ms. Sherrie Castellanos, Chief Business Official. She extended her gratitude to Ms. Castellanos for her dedicated service to our district for the past 8 years.
Dr Cota shared that "what stands out most about Ms. Castellanos is her dedication to the financial stability of our district and her strong convictions regarding service to her fellow administrators, site teams, and ultimately the students. [Our district is] particularly grateful for her leadership throughout a period of instability in the district and the patience she exhibited in onboarding numerous new staff members to their positions and established practices in the district."
Dr. Cota added that "we are very sad to see her go, but we fully support her decision to prioritize her family at this time. She truly embodies our core value of commitment to service and is leaving us all better than she found us."

- Releasing students early or starting their day late.
