MAP Testing
MAP Testing is approaching quickly for BMS Students.
The BMS testing schedule is as follows:
May 7th-all students will take the ELA MAP test
May 9th-8th grade students will take the Science MAP test
May 14th-all students (except Algebra 1) will take the Math MAP test
May 16th- 8th grade Algebra 1 students will take the Algebra EOC
It will be important for students to be on time to school each of these days and remain in school for the duration of testing. If at all possible, please avoid checking your student in or out during our testing times. The length of testing varies each day, but typically lasts through lunch time. The tests are not timed, students have as much time as needed to complete the tests.
You can help your student be at their best for MAP testing by:
- Making sure their iPad is fully charged the days of testing
- Get a good night's sleep
- Eat a good breakfast (we do serve breakfast for students at school)
- Bring a bottle of water
- Bring a book to read for when their tests are completed
What you need to know that is not allowed during testing:
- Students may not have their phones or any electronic device (other than their school iPad) on their person during testing-they will be asked to put it in their backpacks and turned off.
- Students may not wear smartwatches during testing, they will also need to be placed in their backpacks.
- If a phone or watch receives an alert or a student has one on their person during testing, their test will be invalidated.
- Students may not use their iPad for anything other than testing in a testing session.
Please see the below Spirit Week schedule. We would like as many students participate as possible.

Accessing Parent Portal Through PowerSchool
Make Sure You Can Access Your Parent Portal
The district is getting phone calls that many parents and guardians have not created their PowerSchool parent portal account. It is important for parents and guardians to have access because this is where you will enroll your students for summer school. This is also where you will enroll your children for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year.
Paper copies of your students final grades will not be sent home. You must have access to your parent portal so you will be able to view their end of year grades.
Here is the step-by-step instructions to access your account. If you need help creating an account, please call our front office at 816-489-7060.

Additional Resources For Our Students
Paper's Tutors Are Always There To Help.
When students hit a stumbling block on an assignment, our tutors will guide them and help them better understand where or why they’re stuck. Students simply type in their problem, draw it out on the whiteboard, or upload a file from any device.
Paper is an extra set of eyes when students need it. Our tutors review and annotate their writing, including feedback on style, structure, and grammar. From essays to lab reports, students can upload any written work along with their teacher’s instructions.
There’s no limit to how or what students can learn with Paper. They can prepare for upcoming tests, get tips on how to grasp concepts effectively, and even get help with elective subjects.
And Don't Forget Our Student Success Center
Student Success Center
The purpose of the BMS Student Success Center is to provide students with an opportunity to make up attendance hours and/or have access to WiFi for school work outside of school hours in an environment that provides academic support. The SSC will be open Monday-Friday from 2:45-4:00pm. Prior to attending, parents and students will need to complete a request form. Students and parents will be notified when they can begin attending (space may be limited). When in attendance, students will need to have specific work they need to complete, or need additional assistance to complete. If a student does not use the time wisely, they will no longer be able to attend, making space for another student.
In addition, Belton School District will provide 1:1 tutoring services for students through an online service called Paper that is available 24/7 with a connection to the internet.
Missouri 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
Last week, Governor Mike Parson announced that the Missouri 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline has launched a new website: www.missouri988.org. The site provides information for anyone who may be experiencing a mental health, suicide, or substance use crisis.
The newly designated 988 phone number went live nationwide on July 16, 2022. Since that time, it has routed thousands of individuals to local, trained crisis specialists at Missouri’s 988 centers. The 988 crisis line connects anyone experiencing a mental health, suicide, or substance use crisis to compassionate, accessible care and support, available 24/7. Support is free and confidential.
Don't Forget...
Please remember:
1) School starts at 7:24 and ends at 2:32.
2) Please make sure to have your child at school before the time.
3) Late arrivals have to sign in at the office and create a pass to class.
Last But Not Least...
Outside Food Brought In During Lunchtime
Parents can bring up outside food for their students during their lunch. Student must then eat it in the office or in the counseling center.
The Corner of Colbern and Sunrise
For the safety of our students, we would like to ask that all cars picking them up in the afternoons, please enter the circle drive/parking lot off of S Scott Ave. The afternoon pick up line is a quick, easy and secure way for your student to get to you. Please help us keep the corner of Colbern and Sunrise clear for our walkers.
