Tuesday Transition Tips

Transition Tip #40
Reminder
Hello everyone, the deadline of March 15th is quickly approaching for districts, PSAs, and WISD programs to submit their student permissions slips for the field trips to MCTI on April 23rd and Job Corps(Grand Rapids) on May 7th. Please see your special education director, supervisor or principal for details.
Hello and Happy Tuesday,
I hope everyone’s week is off to a great start. This week’s Transition Tip features Pulo’s Career Awareness and Exploration Toolkit(P-CAET). This could be used in conjunction with O*Net. The assessment gives students three choices when responding. It is formatted using videos and pictures for greater differentiation and accessibility. This assessment is currently only offered in English. It is free. Pulo’s Career Awareness and Exploration Toolkit is available at Zarrow Institute on Transition and Self Determination: The University of Oklahoma as well as on the WISD Transition Electronic Assessment/Survey/Inventories website.
O*Net is an online career and employment assessment from the US Department of Department of Labor/Employment and Training Administration. Each career/occupation requires a specific knowledge base along with varied skills sets and abilities to fulfill the requirements of a profession. All of us have likes and dislikes, and that’s what makes us individuals. O*Net provides an assessment to assist people with aligning their areas of interest to careers/occupations.
These assessment results and activities can guide you and your student in creating realistic Postsecondary Vision Goal and subsequent transition activities for the Transition Page of the IEP. Try out these tools together and let us know what you think.

Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual
This Tuesday’s Transition Tip is a review to some and introduction to others. It is important as special education providers/case managers that we create structured and detailed postsecondary transition plans for our students. The Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual is a guide to assist special education staff with creating complaint post-secondary transition plans. This guide contains a table of contents to help locate information quickly. The manual also gives insight on how not only to build a complaint transition plan but a quality transition plan. It includes links, videos, and an appendix to assist. Please take the time to read and review the Washtenaw County Post-Secondary Transition Manual.
Need resources
The WISD Transition Services website has an assessment library with FREE electronic forms/materials. Check it out!
Also the WISD has a lending library of assessment and curricula resources using the WISD Destiny Library.
