Message From Our Principal
Dear Thunder Eagle Families,
Dismissal is running so smoothly that next week we are going to start dismissing students at 3:05 rather than 2:55. If you pick your student up, please make this adjustment. We will still have the gates open at the normal time, but students will not be coming out until 3:05 and dismissal will continue running through 3:25. Thank you for your help with this!
I am excited to announce that we are having our first in person leadership assembly in over two years next week at LRE! We will be recognizing our September leadership award winners for the character trait of RESPECT. We will also be recognizing those Thunder Eagles that have had perfect attendance during the month of September. This month we are giving a little bit of grace for tardies and early releases, but starting in October our perfect attendance awards will only go to students who did not miss any school time in the month of October. Watch for social media posts to see how our assembly went!
Below are some reminders from our transportation department. If your child rides a bus please go over these expectations with them this weekend.
Students must be ready to board the bus 5 minutes before their scheduled pick up time.
The school bus is an extension of the school; Students are expected to behave the same as they would in the classroom. This includes: Respecting the driver and their peers, obeying rules and expectations, refraining from yelling/screaming/shouting. These things can cause a major distraction to drivers.
Students are expected to sit correctly, face forward, so that the aisle way is clear for safely entering and exiting the bus. They are not permitted to stand, turn around, laydown, sit or crawl on the floor, or change seats while the bus is moving.
With the warmer weather, windows have been down and open. However, students need to keep their heads and arms inside the bus. Throwing any items out of the bus is prohibited.
Eating food on the bus, including snacks, drinks, and gum is not allowed. This is to prevent possible choking and/or allergic reactions. Keeping buses clean and sanitary is for the benefit and safety of all passengers.
When exiting the bus, students are expected to wait in front of the bus at the end of the crossing arm and look at the driver. Once the driver has checked to make sure it is safe and traffic is stopped, the driver will signal the students that it is safe to cross by nodding their head. Students are not permitted to cross behind the bus.
Before getting off the bus, students should anticipate their stop and have all belongings ready. They must wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before rising and leaving in an orderly fashion. While off loading at the school, they are excused by grade to allow for a safe departure.
Students who misbehave, will receive a phone call home. Repeated misbehavior will result in a bus slip home. Students who exhibit unsafe bus riding manners may result in losing riding privileges.
Enjoy your weekend!

Family Assistance at LRE
Hello Thunder Eagle families!! My name is Andrea Grant, and this is my fifth year as your school counselor at LRE. One of my roles is community coordinator, meaning I get to connect people with the services they need! We have a variety of community assistance available to any student and family in need. We have partnerships with The Bonney Lake Food Bank, Operation Warm, Dorian Studios, The Big Give, Giving Tree, SBLSD Family Center, and more! Please use this survey to sign up for community resources if it would benefit your family.
Additionally, you may also use this form if you are interested in sponsoring a student for our LRE Holiday Giving Tree and I will contact you in November when it is up and running :)
Changes to Meal Programs
This school year, there are some important changes to meal prices. A national school meal waiver that provided free meals for all students due to the pandemic expired over the summer. This means that meals are no longer free for everyone.
We encourage families who may be eligible to apply for free meals. Applications can be found at sumnersd.org/meals.
Copies of forms are being sent home with all students in their folders and are now available in Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
Keep Your Child Home When:
- The Student has tested positive for, or is waiting on a test for COVID-19
- The student has been told to self isolate or quarantine by public health or a medical professional
- Any of these symptoms are present:
Fever of 100.4 or higher
Cough- frequent and persistent
Loss of taste or smell
Shortness of breath
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting
