SPIRIT WEEK
The SCA is sponsoring a spirit week this week. Check out the flyer below!
GRADE 8 FIELD TRIP
The eighth grade field trip to Fun Land is coming up soon. The students and parents should have received the link to their permission slip from Mr. Gough today. See the flyer below or contact Mr. Gough for more details.
GRADE 7 FIELD TRIP

GRADE 6 IDA LEE NIGHT
The PTA has a super fun evening planned for our 6th graders at Ida Lee Recreation Center on May 17th from 8:30 - 10:30 pm. The evening will include access to the pool, gymnasium, and racquetball courts. There will be a Photo Booth and caricature artists for making lasting memories with friends! Ticket price includes all of these fun activities plus snacks, drinks and popsicles from the King of Pops!
**The PTA also needs chaperones (male and female) for our event. Sign up below.
** Thanks to the PTA and a generous donation from Mainstreet Bank, we are SO CLOSE to our monetary goal for the event. Please consider adding a donation below to help cover the cost of our wish list and concessions for the event!
Important Information to note:
- Students should bring a bathing suit and a towel if they plan to swim.
- Please pick up your student no later than 10:30 pm after the event. For safety reasons, you must come in the building to pick up your student.

ODYSSEY OF THE MIND
Smart's Mill had three teams compete in the regional Odyssey of the Mind competition. All teams placed, and two teams will be moving on to the state tournament in Newport News at the end of April.
Congratulations to all the teams, their parents, and their coaches. There is a lot of work that goes into these competitions, and your achievement at regionals speaks volumes.
Team Karma placed third for their problem.
Team Houdini placed first for their problem and will be moving on to the state competition.
Team Boccolopians placed first for their problem and will be moving on to the state competition.
COSMIC BOWLING
The PE department transformed the auxiliary gym into a glowing Cosmic Bowling alley. This took a great deal of planning and collaboration to pull off. Congratulations to Mr. Lansdowne and Mrs. Causey, Mr. Luckey, Mrs. Kelley, and Mrs. Young. See the pictures below.

GRADE 7 IMMUNIZATIONS
As we approach the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, it is important that you begin to schedule immunizations for students that will be entering the 7th grade. All 7th grade students are required to have certain immunizations per Virginia Code 32.1-46.
The required vaccinations for all 7th-grade students are:
One dose of Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis) given at age 7 or older
One dose of Meningococcal Vaccine, MenACWY (MenQuadfi, Menveo), given at age 10 or older
Encouraged Vaccinations for All 7th-grade Students:
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine
Once your student is vaccinated, please provide our school with the appropriate documentation.

DONATING DIRECTLY TO SMART'S MILL
A big thank you goes out to the families that have donated directly to Smart's Mill. Currently, we have reached 26% or our goal. We have a long way to go to reach our goal of $10,000.00, and every donation helps no matter how big or how small. All funds donated will go directly back to supporting the school, its mission, and our students. If every family donates $10.00/student we will make our goal.
Please consider donating directly to our school by following the instructions below.
To donate with a check:
1. Make check payable to "Smart's Mill Middle School"
2. Write, "Donation" on the memo
3. Bring directly to school or mail to: 850 N. King St., Leesburg, VA 20176
To donate with credit/debit online:
1. Go to the Smart's Mill Website: https://www.lcps.org/o/smm
2. Scroll down to the blue banner and click on the icon "STUDENT PAYMENTS"
3. Either sign in or register for SCHOOL CASH ONLINE.
4. If first the image below doesn't appear, click on the upper right side of the page where it says, "ITEMS."
5. Click on the link for "SMART'S MILL MIDDLE SCHOOL DONATION FUNDRAISER 2024/2025"
6. Donate whatever amount you are comfortable with. You may pick a single donation, or click on several to create the donation level of your choosing (refer to second image below). For example, if you wanted to donate $40, just click on the $25 and $15 donations. If you wanted to donate $65, just click on the $15 and $50 donations.
7. Add to your "CART"
8. Check out.

YEARBOOKS ON SALE
Get your yearbook now by following the information on the flyer below. This information is also on our webpage.
Each year we have students that want a yearbook, but did not order a yearbook. We always order extra, but we always run out. To avoid missing out on the yearbook this year, be sure to order soon!
If you can't remember if you ordered a yearbook, please send and email to Mrs. Sobhani at: lisa.sobhani@lcps.org to verify if you have ordered (or not).
