9/2 Weekly Middle School Updates
Greetings CYMS Families,
We are off to a great start. All students participated in grade-level assemblies where we reviewed the building expectations and discussed the importance of maintaining a positive and respectful school environment. These expectations set the tone for a year filled with learning, growth, and community.
It was great to see so many families join us last Thursday evening for Back to School Night. We appreciate your partnership and continue to look forward to a successful year working together.

We are excited to invite all students to our first Fun Friday of the school year on Friday, September 6th! We are still in need of parent volunteers and donations! More information is included below.
Intramural Sign-Ups are officially underway. After-school intramurals for students interested in participating will begin the week of September 9th. More information is included below.

FUN FRIDAY: SEPTEMBER 6TH
The middle school student council and parent-teacher organization invite all students to attend our first Fun Friday on September 6! Students stay after school and can hang out with friends, win candy at carnival games, dance with the DJ, play basketball in the gym, and so much more! Students must turn in a signed permission form and $4 admission fee to the main office by Thursday, September 5. All questions can be directed to Michele Groom at mgroom@cysd.k12.pa.us
JOIN THE PANTHER PEN STAFF!
Creative students who like to write and keep up with school happenings are invited to join our middle school staff that designs the annual yearbook and helps with school email updates. We meet after school two Tuesdays per month to apply our talents and skills on these real-world products. To join, fill out the application on this form or look for the QR code on the morning slides. Questions? Contact Mrs. Brown in room 12 on Team Ocelot or Mrs. Carlisle in room 9 on Team Cheetah.
HEALTH RECORD UPDATE: DENTAL EXAM
In 7th grade all students are required by the State of Pennsylvania to have proof of a dental visit. Your child’s school health record may be missing this documentation. To fulfill this requirement, please provide proof of a private dental exam if you have not already done so for the 7th grade school year.
Private Dental Exam Instructions: Please download and return the private dental form below after your dentist has completed it. It can be faxed to the Middle School FAX 717-755-5914. Any visit in the past year can count. For example: a dental visit in the past year while your child was still in 6th grade can be used to fulfill this requirement.

Central York Middle School yearbooks are available to order now for the end of the year distribution. Until September 13, you can order a personalized yearbook and get up to four free icons. Yearbooks can be ordered online through the Jostens website. Paper order forms can also be sent to school with cash or check (made out to CYMS) and delivered to Mrs. Brown (room 12) or Mrs. Carlisle (room 9). Questions? MRS. HUGHES' 7TH GRADE SCIENCE
In Mrs. Hughes' class, students discovered more about each other as they completed an activity called "Science About Me". They needed to measure each other in centimeters to find out how tall they were. Sometimes they had to use more than one tape measure and add the totals together.
MR. SANTORO'S 7TH GRADE SCIENCE
Ocelot students started to form connections with their classmates in Mr. Santoro's science class as they had to cooperate in order to make a pyramid with only strings and plastic cups. Without touching the cup with their hand, they had to work together to make their structure. This group concentrated as they finished their second row and got ready to add their last one to be victorious.
CYMS FIELD HOCKEY
The middle school field hockey played against Kennard-Dale on Thursday. The team continues to develop their communication skills, their team work and are showing improvements from the last game. Alaina Birnie, the goalie, had some great saves on the goal cage to keep the Rams from running the score up.
The team plays Tuesday, September 3rd at Manheim Township and on Thursday, September 5th at New Oxford.
