OCTOBER 23, 2024 - NEWSLETTER
SLPHS families,
We welcomed students back from fall break this week, and it is good to see everyone jumping right back into productive learning and routines. It was also great to connect with the families that came in for parent-teacher conferences over the break.
If you are looking to connect with your child’s teacher(s), you can reach out directly to your child’s teacher or plan to connect with them during our next conferencing evening on Wednesday, November 13. We’re building in more frequent opportunities for us to connect with each other this year to support student engagement and success.
We had a senior class meeting this morning. We discussed commencement, college applications, the direct admissions program, process for requesting letters of recommendation, and ways our seniors can get the most out of their senior year. We want to be sure students can leverage their high school experience to access the opportunities that follow graduation.
Post-graduation planning isn’t just for our seniors. It’s college knowledge month in Minnesota, and we are hosting representatives of many colleges and other post-secondary opportunities to support students in developing their plans. On October 31, we will host our annual college fair and currently have more than 50 colleges and universities coming in. Students in all grades are encouraged to attend. Be sure to ask your student which schools they found most impressive afterwards.
We have moved into the second half of the first trimester. Thanksgiving and the end of the trimester will be here fast. Please help us keep students focused so their end of trimester grades accurately reflect what they know and are able to do/demonstrate. We appreciate your support.
Together we build brighter futures, one school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Construction Program Continues to Build Community and Futures
The Construction Trades program at Spring Lake Park High School is in its third year, giving students hands-on experience through real-world construction projects This year, 40 students will complete their largest project yet: finishing a one-story, two-bedroom house that will become a permanent home for a local nonprofit.
Through partnerships with industry professionals, students gain experience working alongside plumbers, electricians, and other tradespeople to learn valuable construction skills. They have practiced by building smaller structures, like sheds and dog houses, and are now ready for the home’s finishing stages. The goal is to finish the house by December.
In addition to honing construction techniques, the students have built a sense of camaraderie. Recently, they gathered for a BBQ to celebrate their progress before diving into the final phase of the house project.
For students Trevor Kachina and Landon Ludke, the course is more than just learning construction - it is a stepping stone to their futures. The program is not just about building houses but also learning life skills, building community and shaping futures. Read more.
