News
Dear Families,
The last two weeks of school are upon us! This is an exciting time for everyone as things wrap up for the year. Everyone is busy finishing projects, trying to get that last bit of learning for the school year done, and making plans for summer. I appreciate all the hard work that students, parents, and staff have put into this year to make it a success.
I am excited that our transportation department has been working hard and training new drivers. We will be ending transportation blackouts for the last week of school. During the last week, all routes will be running. We are also to a point where it looks like all of our routes will be staffed for next year. We appreciate everyone’s help and cooperation during the blackout period and we are glad it will soon be over!
I hope you enjoy the next two weeks!

📝 Message from Assistant Superintendent Stacey Cooper
This week, Numa culminated the end of the year with a fabulous chautauqua event. Students researched a historical figure, dressed up as their historical person, and impersonated their character, highlighting the key events in history. This was truly a spectacular representation of project-based learning at its finest! I am so proud of the innovative, hands-on opportunities our teachers develop. Thank you teachers for going the extra mile to ensure our students are engaged and excited about learning! Thank you parents for supporting this unique opportunity and attending such a fabulous event!

NO Transportation Blackout - LAST WEEK OF SCHOOL! 🎉🚌
ChurchillCSD Families,
I would like to inform you of some exciting news. The ChurchillCSD Transportation Department has announced that there will be NO blackout on the last week of school. All buses and routes will run the week of May 20-24. This means this week will be the last blackout for the 23-24 school year.
The last blackout for the 23-24 school year will be this week May 13-17 for the blue zone which includes buses 10, 25, and 60.
I would like to express my gratitude to our transportation department staff for their hard work and dedication. They stepped up during these hard times and I cannot express how grateful I am to all of them. Their efforts to hire and train more drivers and improve district transportation services have paid off. At this point in time, it looks like we will start the next school year fully staffed with bus drivers.
I want to thank you for your understanding and support during the blackout schedules. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continuously work to improve our transportation service for our students and families.
We will open transportation applications for students to ride the buses for the 24-25 school year early next week.
Best Regards,
Derild Parsons
Superintendent

REQUIRED VACCINES BEFORE ENTERING 12TH GRADE & 7TH GRADE
Meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) REQUIRED BEFORE 12th Grade!
In 2020 Nevada Legislature passed a law that requires students who will be an incoming senior, to have the meningococcal vaccine (MCV4) BEFORE they can start school in the fall. This means that every single current 11th grader has to have this vaccine before they can start 12th grade. This does not apply to any other grade.
Parents can get this vaccine (MCV4) at their doctor's office, pharmacy, or if you don't have insurance or if you have Medicaid, you can get the vaccine from The Central Nevada Health District - call 775-867-8181 for an appointment.
Once your child receives the vaccine, please notify CCHS school nurse Adonna Crowley at crowleya@churchillcsd.com or call her at 775-423-2181 ext. 4124 with the date the vaccine was given. For more information please contact Adonna, or Chief Health Nurse Chassity Mills at 775-423-3463 x 2003.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR 6th GRADE FAMILIES
Dear Parents/Guardians of 6th graders,
All 6th graders must receive the MCV4 (meningococcal) immunization and the Tdap immunization before the start of 7th grade on 12 August 2024. Children will not be allowed to begin 7th grade until there is proof of the immunization being completed.
Parents are encouraged to review their child's shot record and make arrangements with their health care provider for vaccination prior to the busy 'Back to School' season.
Because of the volume of students requiring immunization appointments, you may find it difficult to get an appointment for immunizations over the summer. For those who are uninsured, underinsured, on Medicaid or American Indian/Alaskan Native, you can make an appointment with the Central Nevada Health District community health nurse at (775) 867-8181. You can also get these vaccines from a local pharmacy – just make sure they take your insurance and that they administer the correct vaccines. Listen for announcements about vaccine clinics and ‘back to school’ vaccine clinics.

School Highlights 🎉
CCHS
Students in the Jobs for Americas Graduates program had the opportunity to tour Kinross Mining and shadow the workers around the property.
CCMS
Students in Torri Conley’s advisory class had their mothers in mind last week. With Mother’s Day around the corner, she wanted her students to do something special for their mothers like they used to do in elementary school. With the necessary donations, it was possible.
Numa
History came alive in the halls of the school for the annual Numaseum event. Parents flocked the halls of the school as fifth graders took on the roles of a person, place, or event in history. After weeks of researching and writing, students dressed the part of their historical figures and shared with family and friends what they learned.
E.C. Best
Heidi Emke and Tracy Soules’ classes took a field trip to The Village Nursery last week. The students learned so much from the staff members, and they made they entire experience hands-on. The Village donated all the plants and materials so the students could make their Mother's Day gifts.
Lahontan
CCHS teacher Amanda Hammond took her two ceramics classes to Lahontan last week to meet with Jenny Young and Debbie Swisher’s first-grade classes. The first graders were paired with a ceramics student who drew a monster they collaborated on. Students will now take the notes they collected from their first graders and will have to create a 3D version of the monster as part of their final project for the year and then present it to the first graders.
