Power Hour
Since this week (October 12-15) is a short week with testing and an early out, we will continue with the adjusted schedule we used last week.
Power Hour will begin again Monday, October 18th. Students will be able to earn positive points for attending Power Hour activities and tutoring. This will be done through the Hero system. More information to come!

After School Learning Center
Our After School Learning Center is open!
What is it? After School Learning Center is a protected environment where students work on schoolwork without distractions.
When: Monday-Thursday from 4:30 – 6:00
Where: Rooms 1206 and 1207
Why: To facilitate the academic growth and success for all of our students!
New Counselor Assignments
The SHS administration has re-aligned the counselor alpha assignment to facilitate a more effective distribution of students across the six counselors on staff. This re-alignment has been undertaken to make sure that your students continue to receive the care and attention that they deserve.
Your student’s counselor is determined based on their last name. Please review the newly re-aligned alpha to determine who your student’s counselor will be from this point forward.
Your student will continue to receive the guidance and support needed to ensure their academic success at Shoemaker HS.

Parking Permits
Student parking is restricted to the designated parking lot in front of the school
between the staff parking row and the field house. A 2021-2022 parking permit is
required to park on campus. The application can be obtained at the campus cashier
office. The cost of the (non-transferable) parking permit is $10.00 (for each vehicle
registered) payable to the cashier. Parking permits expire at the end of the school
year and must be displayed inside the bottom corner of front windshield on the
passenger side. Students must furnish the following items with the application to
the cashier:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Current Vehicle Registration and license plate number of each vehicle that the student will be driving
- Proof of Insurance
Vehicles parked on campus without a valid parking permit may be towed at the owners’ expense.
College, Career & Military Readiness
New Texas Graduation Requirement!
Seniors must now complete the FAFSA or TASFA, in addition to the standard curriculum requirements, in order to graduate in the state of Texas. For more information, click the "Financial Aid News" document below.
The FAFSA application is now open at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa. There are copycat sites so make sure students go to the right one! It is a FREE application.

Campus Visit from Central Texas College and Texas A&M - Central Texas
Representatives from Central Texas College and Texas A&M Central Texas will be here on Wednesday, October 20th as follows:
- 3rd period (library): juniors and seniors only
- Lunch (cafeteria)
- 5th period (library): juniors and seniors only
Sign-up is required for the 3rd and 5th period sessions and is available in the counselor's office with our amazing secretary Ms. Brooks.
MLK Scholarship Opportunity
SAT Testing - SENIORS
On October 13th, seniors who have not yet taken the SAT will participate in SAT testing during the school day. This includes seniors who did not participate in School-day SAT testing during their junior year. Killeen ISD is paying the exam fees for these seniors to take the SAT on October 13th.
The SAT is a globally recognized college admission test that is accepted at all U.S. colleges. It can open doors to college, scholarships, and financial aid for students. PSAT Testing - JUNIORS
On October 13th, Juniors who have already signed up through their school counselor will participate in PSAT testing.
The PSAT connects students to more than $235 million in scholarship opportunities, including the National Merit Scholarship Program. The PSAT is also excellent practice for the SAT and can help identify Advanced Placement courses your student is ready to take.
