Learning examples from Whaea Bethan’s classroom Te Totara. Describe a fruit using descriptive language by leaving clues for the reader.
Curious Fruit
You look in your fruit bowl to see a ball, its color like a shimmering sunset. The tiny dimples on its flesh compliment its bumpy rind. The slight bumps that fall into its center resemble a pumpkin without its stem. Pick up this curious fruit and feel its soft-smooth yet firm skin. You give it a small squeeze, feeling it bounce back at the palm of your hand all the way to your fingertips.
As you raise this fruit ready to eat it, you can smell a garden-like scent that has a touch of sweetness to it. You open your mouth before sinking your teeth into it, the mushy texture of the skin meeting your tongue. You can hear the squishy sounds of this fruit getting crushed by your teeth. Then suddenly, a mix of bittersweet and sour rushes into your mouth. Your lips pucker and eyes close tightly. It's eye watering yet refreshing at the same time. Overtime, the sourness subsides, leaving behind a sweetness that makes your tongue tingle. You swallow the skin and pulp, feeling refreshed after just that one bite.
This curious fruit has done an amazing job at delivering a sweet and sour explosion all just in one bite. It gives a small boost of energy to help you get through your day and it's very refreshing.

Picture this
Picture this…a fruit it’s vibrant colour and it’s interesting texture. The shape of it is round and bumpy. You can also get them soft and smooth.
It tastes sweet, sour and also a bit of zest added to it. It is similar to a lemon.
As you taste it you get a surprising blast of sourness, but it gets more sweeter as you continue to eat it. There might be a hint of bitterness as well.
It feels round, bumpy and even smooth. They might even be wet but they are most likely dry.
Take in its appearance. Its vibrant bright colour is shining in the light and the interesting texture captures your attention.
Can you guess what fruit this is?

Vibrant Summer fruit.
It was nice and juicy. The juice exploded in my mouth. The sourness of the round smooth textured fruit made me screw my face up because it was so sour. The colour of the rind is a vibrant summer colour.

Linewize program
We now have a new program in the school that monitors students' online behaviour and activity. Please remind your tamaiti that learning experiences set up by the kaiako are there for the purpose of learning. If misuse of the schools devices or internet activity is reported their devices will be taken from them.
Students are not allowed to bring phones to school. If a phone is required for the student to communicate with their whānau the phone is to be left at the school office.
Phones are not allowed to be used during play breaks, in the classroom, at Kapa Haka practice, or sporting excursions.
If kaiako and staff see a phone they will be confiscated.
Therefore, whānau I need your help:
-Please check that your child hasn’t brought their phone to kura.
-Please check their social media platforms.
-Please monitor the sites they are going on at home.
Family link is a free app that has been used by a member of staff at our kura. She highly recommends the use of this app for her tamariki.
Even though most incidents of misconduct online occur outside of school hours and off school premises, the repercussions are still felt within the school community.
By keeping an eye on how your child behaves online, you can help prevent these negative behaviours from occurring.
