Tehama CTE Teacher Prep Program
News and Updates for February 2024
🗒️ A MESSAGE FROM DR. JILLIAN DAMON
Welcome to the Spring Semester of the CTE Teacher Preparation Program! Jessica, Erin, Kim, and I are excited to support you throughout the CTE credentialing journey.
February marks Career and Technical Education Month, celebrating the real-world skills your students gain, preparing them for success in both college and their chosen careers. Through CTE, students build valuable connections, networking with peers, teachers, and industry partners.
I just returned from A CTE Road Trip facilitated by Expect More Tehama to visit quality CTE programs in the Stockton and Modesto area to gain ideas and ask questions about what is possible for Tehama County and surrounding counties. We were inspired by a variety of CTE models at different education levels, from elementary to high school. We were also able to see a post-secondary CTE Advanced Training Center (VOLT) that trains students on a variety of "industry-led training programs for manufacturing and leadership at all experience levels.” Great things are happening across the state. During this CTE Month, I encourage you to attend the Far North CTE Summit and collaborate with a CTE partner to brainstorm possibilities for your pathway’s unique needs.
As we enter the sixth year of our accreditation cycle, the California Teaching Commission (CTC) will conduct a virtual site visit to assess our progress in meeting the Designated Subjects: Career Technical Education Program Standards. Selected participants will engage in online, Zoom interviews with the accreditation team on April 15th or 16th. Your insights will enhance our program and contribute to its success. If you haven't received an invitation but wish to participate, contact us at cteteacherprep@tehamaschools.org.
CTE Teachers and Programs make profound positive impacts on their students and supporting the development of California’s economy. As we celebrate CTE Month, we want to highlight some CTE statistics for California (ACTE, 2023).
- Graduates that complete a career education credential at California’s community colleges experience a 20% increase in earnings, on average
- 175,620 postsecondary credentials were earned by CTE students in California
- Youth and adult learners in CTE programs are more engaged, graduate high school at higher rates, earn industry-recognized credentials, and have rewarding and family-sustaining careers
- CTE: Good for Students, Good for Business, Good for Communities!
As always, please reach out if we can be of service to you in any way,
Jillian
