Nixapella will perform today at the MMEA conference at the Lake of the Ozarks. They are the third choir from Nixa to be chosen to attend this year's event, along with the Inman Eagles Honor Choir and the Junior High Tenor/Bass Choir. The John Thomas School of Discovery (JTSD) Lottery will take place from February 3 - 14 for those interested in their child attending the school.

As a reminder, please don’t feel you need to rush to fill out an application. When you submit your application, it does not increase or decrease your odds. The application must be filled out by Friday, Feb. 14. All students, including siblings of those attending JTSD and children of school employees, must complete the form and go through the lottery process.

If your child is not currently on the waiting list or has a spot in the school, this is the time to put their name into the lottery.

Description: Driving-101 is a course designed and presented by Retired State Troopers as an introduction to driving, primarily to precede any behind the wheel training for permit drivers or newly licensed drivers lacking confidence and competence when driving. This 3-hour course covers driving fundamentals every new driver should be familiar with before venturing onto Missouri roadways.

Description: Shake things up at our smoothie workshop! Join MU Extension Nutrition and Health Specialist, Jenni Nevatt, for this hands-on workshop where we'll be blending food with family fun! We'll make and taste a variety of smoothies and you'll take home fresh ideas for healthy drinks!

Cost: $5 per Participant

Date & Time: Thursday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m.

Description: Learn all about preparing your soil for spring vegetable and flower planting. Program provided by MU Extension.

Brandon Gaffney's fourth grade class at Mathews Elementary researched tribes who lived in different regions of America. Specifically researching prior to the Europeans exploring America and then the groups made presentations to teach the class about their region and tribes.

Seventh-grade classes at Nixa Junior High participated in a Jenga-style scavenger hunt in the library. Students pulled blocks from their team's tower that corresponded with library-related questions. They then worked as a team to answer the questions and familiarize themselves with different library areas while attempting to keep their team's tower standing!

🏀 Nixa Lady Eagles Basketball captured its first tournament championship since 2019, and it was the first tournament title for the senior class.

Senior Brooke Teter played a pivotal role in helping achieve this feat. Teter had an outstanding three-game run, finishing as the tournament’s top scorer with 59 points (19.7 PPG), 31 of those came from a career-high outing in the semifinal, and was the defensive tone-setter. In the championship game, she had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

Because of her performance, Teter is this week's Guaranty Bank Athlete of the Week.

Teter and the Eagles are currently enduring an eight-game winning streak with a 14-3 record heading into their matchup at Carthage on Jan. 30
