Welcome Back BCE BEARS!!
School Starts August 8th.
Message from Principal Fippin
Hello BCE Community,
I hope everyone had a fantastic summer. I know summer feels like it goes by so fast, and I can't believe we are already back to start another exciting year at BCE. While some took vacations that they will remember forever, others stayed home for some staycations, and others worked and went to camps; whatever you did, I hope you could enjoy each other and find time to be with the ones you love. BCE staff is well-rested and ready to welcome everyone back. Our hallways and classrooms have been missing our Bears and we can't wait to hear the sounds of our BCE Bears on August 8th.
Please join me and the Parent Club Board for Coffee with the Principal right after drop off on August 8th. We will meet on uppers under the main shade structure near the garden. It is a great time to see friends you haven't seen, and I would love to welcome you back to the school year.
Many of you helped or supported your children with the summer learning books. We will be doing a big surprise on 8/23, so if your child can turn in the completed road map to their teacher by 8/16, we can have a list of who will participate. We appreciate any continued learning your student did over the summer and the support you gave your child to continue growing.
We are excited to welcome new staff members to BCE this coming year. Please help me welcome the following staff:
- Abby Weisel- Intervention Support
- Brittany St. George- 3rd Grade-
- Jasmin Hovey- SDC K-2
- Lisa Brown- RSP
- Nicole Arroyo- RSP
- Laura Baker- Intervention Support
- Melissa Sifton- IA- Sped
- Ilene Vasquez- Academic Counselor
A few staff that will be moving or returning to the classroom:
- Kristi Anderson- Dean of Students
- Liza Miller- Returning to 3rd Grade
We will continue to focus on attendance this year. I understand that students get sick and need to stay home. We ask that you only keep your child home if they have a fever, continued cough, or doctor's note. Please ensure you communicate with the office by calling the attendance line at 831-338-2887 when your student is home. We need to have them with us in class to continue to help them grow.
Please make sure you read the entire newsletter. Many important details are below, including class lists, Bear Wear, TK/K meet and greet. It will be a fantastic year, and I am so excited to continue to be part of this community again.
I will continue to send out my Bear Mail every two weeks. The office has an open-door policy, so if you have any questions or if we can be of any support, please reach out. I can be reached best by email at gfippin@slvusd.org.

New Dean and Academic Counselor
This year we have two new support positions on staff to help students be the best they can be at BCE. Ilene Vasquez will be our new Elementary Academic Counselor. The role of Elementary Academic Counselor is to plan and implement a comprehensive counseling/guidance program designed to meet the needs of all elementary school students. Ms. Vasquez will be working with students on problem solving, self-esteem, conflict resolution and decision making through individual, small group and classroom activities. In addition, Ms. Vasquez will also set up a parent information program which will provide opportunities for parents to meet with the school counselor to discuss concerns and develop strategies for assisting students.
Kristi Anderson, will be our new Dean of Students. The role of Dean will serve as support to the principal and staff in the administration of the school’s total instructional program, student discipline, in the development and implementation of school policy and in the general supervision of the campus and school community environment. Mrs.Anderson will also support the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program and will be the primary contact for the school related to student disciplinary issues.
NEW PLAYGROUND EXPECTATIONS
Please read before 1st Day of School
On the first day of school, we will ask all students to stay off the play structure. We will also organize a rotation for all students to learn the new BCE WAY expectations for the playground. We know it is exciting, and we can't wait for everyone to have fun on the new playground, but we want to make sure everyone is safe.
We are also asking that you do not go on the play structure if you visit the school before the first day of school. The ground is like wet paint/ cement, and it must be redone if walked on. It will not be ready until the first day of school. So please help us by staying off.

TK/K Meet and Greet
Bear Wear!!!
We wear Bear Wear on Fridays!! Get your Bear Wear here to join in on the school spirit.
PBIS-
Positive Behavior Support will continue to be a major focus for BCE this year. We will be looking at promoting positive behavior in all ways. We will focus on the BCE Bear Way for the first month. How do we show Be Safe, Respectful, and Responsible all over the campus. Please ask your student how they are showing these behaviors. We will also be giving Bear Paws for good behavior. These will be used like cash at the student store in the coming weeks. More information is to come regarding the store, but it will be very exciting.
Construction Update
Wow we have had so much going on at BCE this summer! We have had new HVAC units installed throughout the campus, new electrical panels, new sidewalk and fencing in the front of the school, new surfacing of the upper parking lot, and most impressive is our new PLAYGROUND!! I want to send a big thank you and shout out to all the construction crews, maintenance crews, custodians, etc that worked so hard all summer to make it all happen for our BEARS. We will continue to have some crews on campus as they finish up projects, but we are so excited to try out our new stuff.
Don't Forget the Rules for Drop off and Pick up
Drop Off and Pick Up
We have had several issues the past couple of weeks at both drop off and pick up. Please know that all of us out at the cross walk are only trying to keep our students and families safe. I wanted to remind everyone to please first be Kind and Patient. Here are a few reminders about pick up and drop off
- You can drop off on either side of Laurel Street.
- You can NOT drop off coming up on Lomond street.
- You can only leave your car in designated parking spots on Laurel street.
- Make sure you are not parking in front of our neighbors drive ways
- On Lomond Street, you need to park in the right direction. Buses are not able to get through when cars are away from the side and parked in the wrong direction.
- When walking down Lomond Street please use the sidewalk. We have had a few close calls with kids and parents walking in the center of the street.
Thank you everyone for helping ensure safety of all of our students. Below is the parking map again for reference.
Hot Lunch and Bus Passes
We will continue to provide free lunch to all students this year. We do ask that you complete the application on the district webpage. It is very important that ALL families complete this form, as it helps us with funding in several different areas.
If your child will be riding the bus this year and will need a bus pass, please make sure you purchase your bus pass online here. Once you log in to LinqConnect you will see "School Store" on the bottom right hand corn. Click that to buy your pass. Any questions contact the transportation department at 831-336-2223
Please also complete the following form for all students riding the bus.
