St. Cecilia Spotlight - Sept 11

Each grade/grade level will share their information at the times listed below. This event will be especially good for new families. Learn all about homework, Dojo, schedules, agenda use, expectations and so much more. Whether or not your bring your children is up to you, just make sure they are prepared to sit and listen along with other families.

September 11th at 6 PM (Grades 1-8)
Each grade level will have three (3) presentation times so that you may attend one for each of your children.

Please join us for the 8:00 Mass

Plan to arrive by 7:40 am and wait outside in front of the school (near the traffic cones) for your grandchild/grandchildren to come out with their class. If it is raining, find a seat in church and wait in a pew for your grandchild/children to find you. They will be able to sit with you during Mass.

Visit your grandchild’s/grandchildren’s classroom

After mass, please join your grandchild/grandchildren in their classrooms to see their classrooms and spend some time with them. Our Grandparents’ Day will wrap up at 10:00 am so that we can resume our school day.

Don't forget to RSVP by September 13th - We are excited to have special visitors at our school!

With recent events involving school safety, we believe this is a perfect time to reach out to parents about the importance of being active participants in your children’s social media accounts.

We understand the importance of giving them a certain amount of freedom when it comes to growth/maturity, yet children need parental authority with the technological overload that they encounter daily.

Please remind your children that instead of “reposting or resharing” something they come across on social media that could be perceived as a threat to their safety or the safety of others, it is vitally important to bring it to the attention of the parents so they can notify authorities.

Technology is a privilege that comes with great responsibility.

The St. Cecilia Youth Choir (SCYC) will be kicking off the 2024-25 season with our first rehearsal on Monday, September 16th from 5:30 - 6:30 PM in the church. A full rehearsal and performance calendar is available in the FORM linked below.

This Youth Choir is open to ALL 2nd - 8th grade St. Cecilia PARISH CHILDREN. That means YOU - St. Cecilia School Students! (Children younger than 2nd grade may be accepted on a trial basis if they can read, carry a tune, follow instructions, and focus for a fast paced 1 hour rehearsal.)

The yearbooks from last year have arrived and have been distributed. We have a limited amount to sell. If you didn't order one, you still have an opportunity to purchase one while supplies last. Send a check to the school office in an envelope marked "YEARBOOK" and we will send it home with your child.

We need help in our cafeteria on a daily basis. Great way to earn Parent Partnership hours. Kitchen Help will assist the cafeteria with serving food. Cafe Monitor will assist students with opening items and cleaning tables.

You must be VIRTUS compliant. Parent hours need to be logged in to Sycamore for approval!

• 9/30 Crusader Track Trot - Our fall fundraiser this year will be a walkathon! Details coming home TODAY. We will need volunteers to help with the walkathon. If you would like to help or have any questions, please email the pto at pto@stcindependence.org
  
• 10/12 Trunk Or Treat - Save the Date! Our Trunk or Treat event will be held on Saturday, October 12 in the undercroft and lower level parking lot. Sign ups for Trunks will be out in the next few weeks!

Spiritwear Shirts - Our t-shirt order has been placed! We will be sending home your childs/childrens free t-shirt(s), as well as any extra shirts you ordered in the next few weeks. Once we have all of the t-shirts distributed, we will have some extra to sell and will post information on buying extra shirts when we can.

Registration is now open to all students in grades 4-8 for St. Cecilia archery! Practices are Wednesday's from 6:00-7:00 starting in October and go through March. Tournaments are 1hr long and are on either Friday night or Saturday during the day.

2025 Men's Stag - Benefiting the St. Cecilia Sports Program

Last years event raised enough money to purchase out door basketball hoops for our school. Come out for another epic night for live music, food, drinks, games, and raffles.

**Get Involved – Join the Sports Committee:** We are looking for amazing people!!

Our sports programs thrive thanks to the dedication of our wonderful volunteers. We invite you to get involved by joining the Saint Cecilia Sports Committee. Whether you have a background in sports or just a passion for supporting our students, your involvement can make a significant impact. We have various roles available that cater to different interests and time commitments.

OPEN POSITIONS

Secretary: Taking notes and creating the agenda for our meetings.

Social Media Manager: Gather photos, create flyers, promote our hard working student athletes, and market our events.

Members at Large: Want to help but not ready to take on a full roll. Members at large take on the odds and ends and can help where needed. Only requirement is attending the 1/month meeting and helping with what they can.

U4/U6 Assistant Soccer Coordinator: Simply show up on Sunday afternoons during soccer seasons and direct families to which field they are playing on and blow a horn to start the games and end the games. This is perfect for someone who loves to watch the little ones have fun running around.
