Principal's Message

We have seen an uptick in illnesses over the past weeks. There are three main types of absences for students:

Medical--note from the doctor/dentist/ortho. These do not count against students, so please, always get a note when your child has an appointment. Many doctors will fax us notes if you are simply keeping your child home sick (example: my child has a fever, I call the nurse line at the pediatrician's office, they'll fax a note to school excusing her absence.)

Excused--communication (phone call or note) from the parent stating the child's absence and a valid reason (typically illness)

Unexcused--no parent communication or not a valid reason to miss school

**Unexcused absences are what trigger truancy the fastest, so please always call in or send a note when your child misses school!**

With that I have fielded several quesitons regarding attendance and participation in after-school activities (mainly athletics). Here is our handbook language for reference:

ACTIVITIES AND ATTENDANCE Students participating in extracurricular activities must attend school during the day of the activity in order to participate in the activity. In order to participate on game day a student must be in school for at least half of the day (arrive before 11:00 am) or have a documented excuse (i.e. doctor’s appointment) pre-approved by a principal. *Students serving In School Detention on the day of an after school activity may not participate in the activity that day.

October 18 and 21--No school

October 25th--Report cards go home; Popcorn and Pop for students with No ICU, no discipline, and <3 absences for the first quarter!

October 30th--2 hour delay

November 1st--Halloween Dance

Scholastic Book Fair

It's Book Fair Time!

The Book Fair will be at LMS from Monday September 30th through Friday October 11th.

There will be a family night on Tuesday, October 1st until 6 pm in the MS Library.

PFO

Look for information coming home next week regarding our upcoming Walk-a-Thon on October 15th!! We are trying to raise $10,000 to cover costs for field trips and fun events for our students. Students will be able to earn raffle tickets for every $20 raised or a grand prize of silly-stringing Mrs. Corum and Mr. Ellerbrock!

How can I help?

Students at LMS earn PRIDE cards for demonstrating outstanding PRIDE qualities--Positive, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Engagement. When they earn a PRIDE card, they are able to redeem it in the school office for a small prize. PFO sponsors these prizes. If you would like to donate small prizes, you can drop them off in the school office or shop off our Amazon Wish List!
