Principal's Message
Dear SWS Community,
Please join us next weekend for our annual SWEF Fall Festival! The Foundation is seeking participants for the Open Mic, which kicks off at 1:15 PM at the playground pavilion. They also need players for the community Kickball Game at 1:15 PM on the lower field and the Whiffleball Game at 2:00 PM near the pavilion. Additionally, volunteers are needed to help run both games. If you're interested in performing, playing, or volunteering, please email the Foundation at swseducationfoundation@gmail.com.
NJSLA results from this past spring will be mailed home next week for students in grades 4-6 who participated in the English Language Arts, Math, and Science assessments last May. Included with the results is a cover letter offering helpful links on how to interpret your child's scores and where to access previous NJSLA results online. A detailed analysis of the NJSLA data will also be presented at the Board of Education meeting in October.
Have you heard about this month's SWS character pillar? It’s all about school and self pride! Throughout September, we’re recognizing students who demonstrate pride in themselves or our school. In these first few weeks, we’ve celebrated students for taking on challenges, keeping our school clean, showing pride in their friendships, and helping classmates feel confident. Each month, we’ll focus on a different character theme, culminating in a school-wide pep rally full of games and fun. By highlighting this pillar, we hope to inspire all our students to take pride in themselves and our community through meaningful actions.
Please be sure to send your Pizza Forms back to school by this coming Monday, September 23.
Sincerely,
Brooke Phillips
Principal/Supervisor of Special Education
We were excited to have KRHS football and cheer team alumni welcome us into school today. Be sure to attend tonight's Community Day football game at KRHS! A flyer with more info is below.
It was an important day here at SWS - 6th graders and Kindergarten Buddies had their first meeting! Through the year these two grades will engage in many projects and team building activities together, forging a very special Sandyston bond.
Sixth grade students enjoy reading their whole class novel Holes.
Kindergarten students practicing their skywriting and then applying the same skills on their whiteboards.
Fourth grade students explore vision and the eye by using microscopes with shadows.
Second and third grade students practicing their math skills.
Principal Phillips reads aloud Room On Our Rock with third grade. Ms. Phillips read this book with all grade levels the first weeks of school as part of the monthly Character Ed program. Room On Our Rock is a touching, clever look at empathy, compassion, and perspective, presenting two points of view of a mother and baby seal's search for a safe home.
Fourth grade students at KRHS for the regional aquatics program.
First grade students create imaginative purple drawings after hearing the book Harold and the Purple Crayon.
In technology class students read The Name Jar and explored how to design their name in 3d.
Sixth grade social studies students explore hands on what real life archaeologists do by trying to uncover hidden chocolate gems from choclocate chip m&m cookies. Don't worry, Mrs. Tarbell had extra cookies to share once they were done excavating!
Second and third grade students learn all about how to make applesauce. It tasted delicious!
