I hope you are enjoying some well-deserved rest and the spring-like temperatures this weekend after the blizzard on Wednesday! As we transition into Week 26 of the 2024-2025 school year, I want to take a moment to share some important updates as we continue moving forward.

AFA Spring Bowling Bash!

We are excited to announce our first AFA Spring Bowling Bash! Join us for a fun-filled afternoon at Memory Lanes in Minneapolis on Friday, March 21st, from 1-3 PM. Students will depart from school at 12:45 PM, and non-participating students must go home. Light refreshments will be provided. Families are welcome to join us and should RSVP by March 18th to reserve their spot.

Week 25: Looking Ahead

Quarter 3 Deadlines

• A reminder that Quarter 3 ends on Thursday, March 27, 2025. Students must have all assignments, projects, and assessments submitted by 3:27 PM that day to ensure they are included in their Quarter 3 grades. Please encourage your student to finish the quarter strong and submit all outstanding work by the deadline.

MCA Testing

• As we look ahead to the remainder of the school year, one important event we’re preparing for is the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCAs). These assessments measure whether students have met, partially met, or exceeded Minnesota’s academic standards in key areas. The MCAs are required for all public schools in Minnesota, and official results will be available in the fall.
• Here’s what you need to know about the MCA testing schedule:

• MCA: Reading for students in grade 10 will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
• MCA: Math for students in grade 11 will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
• MCA: Science for students who have completed Biology will take place during the week of April 28 – May 2, 2025.
• We encourage students to prepare by staying focused on their studies in the lead-up to the tests. If you have any questions or concerns about the MCA testing or how it may affect your student, please feel free to reach out to our academic team for further clarification.

Women's History Month is a time to honor and celebrate the achievements, contributions, and stories of women throughout history. It highlights the ongoing struggle for gender equality and recognizes the impact women have made in shaping our world. It's an opportunity to reflect on progress and continue advocating for women’s rights and opportunities.

Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month is dedicated to increasing understanding and acceptance of individuals with developmental disabilities. It aims to raise awareness of the challenges they face and highlight their strengths, contributions, and rights to inclusion. This month encourages empathy, respect, and the creation of a more supportive and accessible society for everyone.

AFA is a Community Eligibility Provision school, so all students are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. It is still important for families to complete the Alternative Application for Educational Benefits, which is linked below. This application can help bring in additional funding to AFA to increase educational opportunities.

We are committed to providing a focused and distraction-free environment at Augsburg Fairview Academy. As part of our efforts, we have a strict cell phone policy requiring students to pouch their phones upon arrival, keeping them secured until dismissal, unless there is an emergency.

Key Policy Points:

• Phones must be placed in Yondr pouches at arrival.
• Phones can only be accessed after dismissal.
• Parents should contact the main office at 612-333-1614 to reach their student.

Updated Enforcement:
Effective immediately, students who refuse to pouch their phones after redirection will be sent home. This action is necessary to prevent distractions and maintain a productive learning environment.

Why This Matters:

• Improved Academic Outcomes: A 10.3% increase in passing rates reflects the positive impact of a distraction-free space.
• Better Engagement: Teachers report increased focus and fewer disruptions.
• Social & Emotional Benefits: A phone-free environment fosters healthier interactions.
• Research Supports: Studies show that reducing phone use improves both academics and mental well-being.
