Disney Is Coming to Lipscomb!
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Disney is Coming to Lipscomb!
Disney Musicals in Schools with the AT&T Performing Arts Center
I am thrilled to announce that Lipscomb Elementary has been selected as one of only five schools from Dallas ISD and Richardson ISD to participate in the Disney Musicals in Schools Program in collaboration with the AT&T Performing Arts Center!
Over the next three years, we will partner with Disney Musicals in Schools to bring the art of musical theatre to Lipscomb, enhancing our arts programming and fostering collaboration among students, faculty, staff, and the wider community. Through this partnership, we aim to build a sustainable theatre arts program that will become a hallmark of pride at Lipscomb.
While many elementary schools do not offer theatre programs, Lipscomb will stand out by providing not only rigorous academic offerings such as International Baccalaureate (IB) and Dual Language but also exceptional arts education that supports the holistic development of our Lions.
Program Overview
As a recipient school, Lipscomb will receive:
- Performance rights to a 30-minute Disney KIDS musical of our choosing (options include 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, The Artistocats, Finding Nemo, Frozen, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, and Winnie the Pooh).
- ShowKit materials, including a director’s guide, student scripts, accompaniment and rehearsal tracks, choreography videos, and cross-curricular activities.
- Weekly in-school support from a team of two AT&T Performing Arts Center Teaching Artists:
- The Teaching Artists will be at Lipscomb weekly for 90-minute visits, and serve as production and creative advisors to our School Team and student performers
- The Teaching Artists will guide both production management (developing a rehearsal schedule, running auditions, and addressing technical and physical production requirements) and the creative execution of the show (direction, choreography, acting, and design).
Disney KIDS Musical Performances
Over the course of the Spring, students will participate in weekly rehearsals, including a 90-minute after-school rehearsal, in preparation for a community performance at Lipscomb Elementary.
Additionally, our students will perform selections of their production at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House.
The program is primarily for students in 3rd-5th grade, but there will be opportunities to be involved for all Lipscomb Lions.
Timeline:
December 4, 2024: School orientation
December 9, 2024 – April 25, 2025: Rehearsals and onsite support from Teaching Artists
April 28, 2025: Student Performance at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House.

Looking Ahead
We are proud to have this program led by Mrs. Wright, whose dedication was key in the application process. She was supported by our Leadership Team and the Lipscomb Student Ambassadors, who showcased our school’s capabilities and commitment by guiding program visitors on a tour of Lipscomb.
More details will be shared in the coming weeks, but we invite parents and community members with a passion for the arts to join us in bringing this program to Lipscomb. If you would like to get involved, please contact Mrs. Wright at liwright@dallasisd.org.
As this is a new program for our campus, we will be dedicating the next few weeks to developing its components and logistics. Comprehensive information will be shared soon after the Campus Orientation on December 4th.
In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the program's website to learn more and share this information with your child. We look forward to strengthening our Arts program with this initiative and adding yet another reason to be THE PRIDE OF OLD EAST DALLAS!
