Message From The Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last Friday we had our Faction Cross Country. A big thank you must go to Miss Emily Rasmussen, who always does an exemplary job of organising these big events; it is no easy feat! It was a wonderful day, which ran smoothly with all students ‘having a go’ and displaying our St Luke’s values helping and cheering each other on! Thank you to the parents who were able to join us on the day and support the students in their events. Congratulations to MacKillop faction, for being the overall winners and to those students who received a medal at Tuesday’s assembly. I am so impressed with how well every single student ran on the day! You wouldn’t catch me being able to run that far! Well done!
Our Year Six students participated in their Confirmation retreat on Monday. Thank you to 24:7 Youth Ministry who run this day with incredible passion and enthusiasm. From all accounts, it was a very worthwhile and meaningful retreat. We hope this assists our candidates in their preparation for their upcoming Sacrament. Please keep them in your prayers; they will receive their Confirmation on the weekend of 18/19 May. Thank you to Mrs Angela Coon (Sacramental Coordinator), Fr Stan, Mrs Kristy Graffin, Mr Bruce Plint, Mrs Deb Barry and Miss Olivia Robertson (Choir Teacher) for all your hard work behind the scenes. We know this will be a very special and Holy occasion for these students.
Could I please kindly request that our families all abide by both the Kiss n Ride rules and the Council laws at all times. We have received complaints from our neighbouring residents about the behaviour of motorists on Duffy Tce after school. Driving down the wrong side of the road and displaying impatient behaviours, like speeding, is a huge risk to our children. Please be patient, considerate and courteous at all times so that we can get every child home safely.
Tomorrow morning, we have our Mother’s and Grandmother’s Appreciation Event. Thank you to Blaise Rego and the Fathering Project team for all your organisation, food shopping and planning! We have had over 270 RSVPs!!! It will be a very busy morning! As previously mentioned, please be mindful of the residents around the school and not parking over driveways/verges. Carpooling would be a fabulous idea! We hope the mothers, grandmothers and female figures all have a lovely time at breakfast (served by the students), visiting classrooms and watching our Pre-Primary assembly. We wish all our mums a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday.
“When you are looking at your mother,
you are looking at the purest love you will ever know.”
Charley Benetto
A final thought that I would like to share with you all; when I walk around the school, I cannot help but have a huge smile on my face as I hear the joy around the school. The busyness of classrooms, the laughter of children, the wise words from our educators and the overall sense of warmth from our families is all around the school. I feel grateful and blessed to be a part of this special community here at St Luke’s.
Thank you for what you and your family bring to our community; every single member here is special, valued and appreciated!
Keep smiling everyone!

Message from the Assistant Principals
Mother's & Grandmother's Appreciation Morning
We are looking forward to welcoming all of the mothers, grandmothers and mother figures for breakfast tomorrow morning. Please see below for the schedule for the morning:
7:30am- Breakfast in the Undercover Area.
8:10am- Families invited to classrooms.
8:45am- Pre Primary Assembly. All are welcome.
Please be mindful of our neighbours when parking on Friday morning. Do not park over driveways and make sure you have checked the signage on the verge on Duffy Terrace. Parking on school grounds is extremely limited, so it would be a great idea to carpool where possible.
Family Mass - This Sunday 12 May 9.30am
This Sunday, we encourage all our families to come together and join Fr. Stan for Mass at 9.30am. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to be a part of the celebration.
Merit Award Assemblies
Kindly note that our Merit Award assemblies will now commence at 2:20pm. Please refer to our community calendar for the dates of these assemblies.
Dogs on School Grounds
Unfortunately, families are not permitted to bring dogs on school grounds. While we understand the joy they bring, ensuring the wellbeing of all is our priority. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Before School Supervision
For the safety of our students, please note that there is no supervision on school grounds before 8:10am. We encourage parents to ensure that their children arrive at school after this time and remain in the Undercover Area until the first bell rings at 8:25am. Parents and students should not be waiting outside classrooms before this time. A second bell will sound at 8:35am to signal the beginning of teaching and learning. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students.

Encouraging Big Ideas
The term 'Big Ideas' refers to ambitious or grandiose plans or proposals. They can be imaginative, daring, even impractical. History tells us that some of the biggest ideas, those that are life-changing or make a difference to the world, come from students who appeared least likely during their school years.
A great example is Richard Branson, Founder of Virgin, who recently posted the following on social media.
I stumbled across this school reports from the Easter break, 65 years ago. It felt very fitting to hear that I was “very backward” in spelling and reading – as I get set to launch my audiobook next week! .......here are a few highlights:
Classics: “Very keen, but handicapped by a bad memory. Some progress.”
Mathematics: “The first half of the term saw a great improvement in his work, but once he began to get onto really new processes his keenness declined, and his standard dropped.”
French: “A slight improvement this term but his work is still below standard.”
English: “He is still very backward in this subject, especially in spelling and reading - constant practice in the latter is necessary.”
Drawing: “If he took a little care he could be good.”
Branson goes on to say: Going through school with undiagnosed dyslexia wasn’t at all fun, but I’m glad I didn’t let it squash my big ideas. I hope this inspires anyone out there who might be struggling at school right now. Just remember there’s a whole lot more to life out there, and one day you’ll be able to look back on these reports and smile.
Let’s encourage big ideas from all our children but especially those for whom school is a struggle.
You may like to discuss the story of Richard Branson’s school experience with your child and what he has since achieved.
Explain that anyone is capable of big ideas.
Teach the skills of a growth mindset, encouraging the view that challenges are opportunities for growth and learning.
Build resilience by reflecting on any failure as a learning experience, celebrating progress and small wins to build confidence and motivation.
Help them to put a name to their strengths and passions.
Identify supportive resources and people who can guide them.
Inspire them to generate big ideas that make a positive impact
Albert Einstein said: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Let’s encourage each member of our school community to discover their genius.

Fr Stan would also love to meet you, so please introduce yourself at school or after Mass. You are welcome to visit the pastoral office on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.30am—2.30pm.

The next Family Mass will be held on Sunday 12th May at 9:30am. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to be actively involved in the celebration and we would love to see as many families there as possible.
Children's Liturgy of the Word
The next Children’s Liturgy of the Word will be on the 9 June. Children under the age of 10 are welcome and will hopefully reach a better understanding of the Gospel reading each Sunday. Children are taken into the Parish Centre at the start of the 9.30am Mass and they return to Church for the Offertory of the Mass.
Volunteers Required for Church Laundry Roster
We are urgently looking for volunteers to join this dedicated group of people to help with the Parish Laundry (A3 size bag of laundry, approximately 30 minutes of your time), as some of our regular volunteers are no longer able to assist. Youth Group Report
Last Friday at 24:7 Woodvale we had an attendance of 30 young people who brought lots of fun and laughter to our evening. We started the term off with a great games night playing a large variety of games.
After this, we had Trinity introduce our term theme of “Who is Jesus?”. To delve deeper into our topic we’ll be looking at clips from The Chosen, to break open who Jesus is and how he’s someone we can have a beautiful relationship with. After this we had prayer circle, food and mingling time to finish off the night.
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
We have our next youth group night on the 10th of May based around our first clip from The Chosen. We also have our combined north youth groups event coming up on the 31st of May with more details to come.
SPECIAL EVENTS
On the 11th of May we will be celebrating 24:7 Youth Ministry’s 21st year of youth ministry with our Fundraising Quiz Night! The flyer attached has all the details, with tickets on sale for only $10 each!
God Bless, Trinity & Michael
