What's Happening in the AIG Classroom?
Elementary: Our 4th and 5th grade AIG and Talent Development students read the novel Because of Winn-Dixie and worked on character mapping, solved the "Thanksgiving Dinner Dilemma", and worked on holiday pattern and logic puzzles.
Middle: Our 8th grade AIG students explored "The Human Condition" during STING enrichment in November/December. Ms. Harris pushed in to ELA classes to support writing the argumentative essay in 7th grade and the literary analysis in 8th grade. 6th grade ELA students participated in a Socratic seminar about feudalism.
Thanksgiving Dinner Dilemma
4th and 5th grade math students solved problems in preparation for the big family feast!

Novel Study: Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
4th and 5th grade reading students read the novel, completed character maps of the main and secondary characters, and completed their 'Top Ten' lists about themselves.
Drawing Conclusions & Making Inferences
4th grade reading students worked on bolstering their skills with drawing conclusions and making inferences. They read a number of different reading passages (fiction and nonfiction) and worked through the texts and questions.
'The Human Condition'
8th grade AIG students explored "The Human Condition' during a 3-day STING enrichment. Students looked at the differences between humans and animals, including emotions and intelligence, and 'chalk talked' through various examples (tradition, culture, needs, education, etc.) related to our human condition.
Writing Process: Literary Elements in Short Stories
8th grade ELA students were supported in the writing process as they completed their essays on literary elements in short stories.
Math Escape Rooms
6th and 7th grade math students who had mastered concepts completed math escape rooms. 6th graders solved perimeter/area, distance/time, and 2-3 step process problems to finish the 'Turkey Time' room. 7th graders solved math vocabulary, percentage, and perimeter/area problems to escape the chambers in 'Trapped in Pumpkinopolis'.
Using the Depth and Complexity Icons to Support Advanced Learners
These tools help students think deeper by exploring connections and areas and by asking thought-provoking questions about content.
