SRMS Updates, January 26, 2024

Good afternoon, Sandy Run Families,

I hope that this week has gone smoothly for you and your family. After last week's unique schedule with snow days, our students rebounded well by staying fully engaged during a full week of classes. Some highlights from the week include Eastern Center for Arts and Technology meeting with our 8th grade students (see below for more information); some hard fought basketball and wrestling competitions by our student-athletes; and lots of end-of marking period demonstration of skills and mastery. As we head into the second semester, students' Encore classes will rotate, and we are excited to see the growth and development in the classroom as we continue to push each other to new heights.

To prepare for their transition to UDHS, please see the important events for 8th grade students and their families.

• 1/29-2/9 - Teachers upload course recs in IC and conference w/ students
• 1/30 - 8th Grade Parent Course Selection Preview: 7:00-8:00PM; SRMS Auditorium
• 2/1 - Program of Studies Night for parents at UDHS 6:30pm
• Our annual Program of Studies event will take place on Thursday, February 1, starting at 6:30 PM. Parents and guardians of students in grades eight to eleven are welcome to start the evening in either the Cafeteria or Auditorium. The agenda is linked here. We look forward to sharing information about our courses and the selection process. Also available for your review is the 2024-2025 Program of Studies. Thanks to student Benjamin Shon for the excellent cover design. Please begin to familiarize yourselves with the descriptions and videos for the classes available to UDHS students.

This week, we are focusing on the governor's school breakfast challenge and our district-wide Silver Savers launch.

The Upper Dublin Chinese American Association (UDCA) and Upper Dublin School District Asian American Students and Families Committee (UDSD-AASF) invite you to celebrate the 2024 Lunar New Year: Year of the Dragon! There are two events for the Lunar New Year Celebration in our Upper Dublin community:

• Event #1: Upper Dublin Public Library, Feb. 3, 2024, 2-3:30 pm. FREE admission. Please see the flyer here.
• Event #2: UDHS Performing Arts Center, Feb. 10, 7-9 pm. See the Lunar New Year Gala flyer here

We'd like to invite you to join us for a marvelous night of fun, entertainment, shopping and education during our annual UD Celebrate! 2024 Black History Event, held at Sandy Run Middle School on THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 15 (snow date, 2/22).

This is free and open to the public. We ask that all attendees register at bit.ly/UDC24.

The Willow Grove Baptist Food Pantry helps families in need in our community including Abington, Cheltenham, Hatboro-Horsham, Upper Dublin, Upper Moreland, Springfield, and Centennial School Districts and other surrounding areas.

• The food pantry has grown from assisting 50 families each week in 2021 to 100 families a week in 2022 to currently assisting over 160 families weekly. It has been difficult for the pantry to keep up with the amount of food needed to help all of our pantry families.
• Could you please help Willow Grove Baptist Food Pantry by contributing to Sandy Run’s Food Drive the week of February 5th through February 9th? The most needed food items at the pantry include: Cereal, Oatmeal, Pasta Sauce & Pasta, Canned Pasta, Canned Chili & Beef Stew, Canned Soups, and Peanut Butter & Jelly. Other most needed items include: Toilet Paper, Paper Towels, Tissues, Bar Soap, Toothpaste, Shampoo, Body Wash, and Deodorant.
