PE with Ms. Lanners
What’s Happening in Gym
Welcome to the wonderful world of Physical Education!
A little about myself:
I was born and raised in the Mat-Su Valley , afterwards I went to college at UAA where I received my bachelors degree, and then a Masters of Arts in Teaching. I started my teaching career in Chevak, Alaska, but made the move back to the MSBSD where I have been teaching elementary PE for the past seven years. I coach x-country running, girls basketball, and track here at Meadow Lakes Elementary!
When I’m not teaching or coaching I enjoy time with my family going for walks, camping, and hiking.
What’s Happening Now!
Muscle Strength, Flexibility, and Floor Hockey!!!
Students in all grades are working on their overall muscle strength by working on push-ups, different types of sit-ups and core exercises, squats and burpees! Continuing on with the flexibility and cardio units from before, we are beginning to put it all together to understand overall physical fitness.
FLOOR HOCKEY!
All students are doing floor hockey, learning stick and puck safety, sportsmanship, teamwork, positioning in a team game (not clumping together, and learning the importance of offense and defense working together).
Please make sure that your children are bringing proper tennis shoes to PE! They NEED proper footwear to get the best experience possible!
Floor Hockey
All grades are learning how to play floor hockey while being safe, and having fun.
Stretching!
Every PE class we will do a warm-up with either jogging, jump roping, hula hooping, but then we make sure to spend time on flexibility. We talk about the importance of stretching, and learn new ways to stretch our bodies before the main workout of the day.
Heart Health
Students focus on cardiovascular health and activities during their PE time. They are able to give examples of activities they can do to raise their heart rate as well as how to slow our hearts and breathing down to calm our bodies.
