Master of Ceremony Nate Tannenbaum highlighted the 13 Annual Smith Center Concert on his What's Cool at School segment on Friday, November 15. His segment included video and photos from this phenomenal night of music with over 250 students taking the stage. He reminded everyone that there are other performing arts schools in CCSD, "but there is only one Las Vegas Academy." Watch Channel 8 What's Cool at School. Thank you, Nate! Many Thanks to Friends of the Academy Sponsorship of Smith Center Concert
Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble on an unforgettable performance at LVA’s 12th Annual Smith Center Concert! A huge thank you to the Friends of Las Vegas Academy for sponsoring the Master Artist Series which brought Grammy Award-winning composer, Michael Daugherty, and violinist Bethany Mennemeyer to our students. Their residency with the LVA Band Program leading up to the Smith Center performance was both inspiring and invigorating!
We also want to extend our deepest gratitude to the LVA Band Boosters for their unwavering support, from providing meals for our students, helping chaperone throughout the day, and even driving a moving truck full of equipment! A big thank you to our LVA Band families who supported the PFA program, which funded a large portion of the residency as well. We truly appreciate your support!
Media Students Make Strong Showing at National Conference
This past weekend, nine media students traveled to Philadelphia for the Fall Journalism Education Association Conference which hosts over 4000 media students from around the country.
Six LVA students presented to an audience of student journalists and advisors. They had a packed room, and unlike most presentations, Afterwards, John Vitti, a sports writer with the Boston Globe and head of the nonprofit called Headliners in Education, took the students' photo, gave them gifts, told them they had the best presentation of the entire conference, and then repeated his praise on his nonprofit's social media account.
While there, students attended numerous workshops relating to all things media. Students who attended previous conferences competed in one or more media competitions earning Honorable Mention in their categories. LVA students took advantage of opportunities to make professional connections with journalism and university professors.
Later, Violet and Aliyah reported to a session for which the scheduled speaker did not show. In a last- minute switch, they were invited to present AGAIN, and they earned rave reviews.
Congratulations to these students for representing LVA in journalism and media!
