FEBRUARY IS CTE MONTH
CELEBRATE TODAY, OWN TOMORROW!
During the month of February, there are a variety of events to highlight Career Technical Education.
The SUHSD is joining efforts to celebrate CTE with other organizations across the United States to recognize the importance of career and technical education in preparing our students for high-skilled and high-wage occupations. See below for details and signup information for these events.
KICK OFF EVENTS AT EACH HIGH SCHOOL
SUHSD High Schools will be kicking off CTE Month in various ways, including:

CTE SHOWCASE LAUNCH - FEB 1
The purpose of the CTE 2024 Student Showcase is to celebrate student Career Technical Education projects in a virtual format. Here are some important details:
2/1: CTE Showcase Announced
2/1 - 4/7: Project Submission Window

4/8 - 4/20: Projects Reviewed by Nomination Panel to choose finalists (Showcase Rubric)
4/19: Projects posted on the website/Grand Opening
4/23 - 5/4: Grand Prize Award Winners Selection

5/9: Grand Prize Award Winners Announced @ JPA Student Awards Night

MISSION TRAILS ROP IN PERSON TOURS - FEB 5-8
Prospective high school students will have the opportunity to learn about the CTE courses available at MTROP via in person tours:

INDUSTRY EXPERT DAY AT MTROP - FEB 23
Every MTROP on-site class will feature an Industry Guest Speaker relevant to the course. The Guest Speaker will share valuable tips and helpful insights during their presentation to the class.

SKILLSUSA COMPETITIONS
86 SUHSD students are participating in 29 SkillsUSA contests in which they will demonstrate their career readiness skills. A big thanks to the following CTE teachers for advising these students in preparation for the SkillsUSA contests: Robert Booth, Rosana Diaz, Jen Ghastin, Guadalupe Guzman-Rubio, Marc Kollerer, Renata Lahodni, Leslie Ochinang, and Scott Rose.
Hartnell CTE Interest
Hartnell’s CTE programs are primarily taught at our Alisal Campus, a state-of-the-art facility built in 2006 with support from Salinas Valley business and industry. The campus features interactive classrooms, science laboratories, computer labs and numerous hands-on technical shops tailored to each program.

Girls Firefighter Camp
MPC is proud to announce that they are holding a Girls Firefighter Camp on Saturday April 20th from 7am-5pm open to girls ages 14-18. Cadets will learn live fire, rescuing dummies, rope rappelling, wildland hose lays, CPR, extinguisher, ladder climbing, and chainsaw training.
