August 29th, 2024
Ms. Kuhn's Newsletter for September 9th
π Welcome to Ms. Kuhn's Class Update! π
Hello, wonderful parents and guardians! I hope you all had a fantastic week. As we transition from the sunny days of summer into the exciting new school year, I am thrilled to share what we have been up to and what lies ahead for our amazing students. Let's dive right in! π
Next Week's Adventures
π Phonics Fun π
This week, we will focus on the short /u/ vowel sound and the letter sound /s/ at the end of a word. We have also been learning about some important spelling rule
-ck Rule: If the sound /k/ falls at the end of a word followed by a short vowel sound, it is spelled with βck.β
FLOSS Rule: If a one-syllable word ends with f, l, or s, we double the final f, l, or s.
π Reading Time π
In Unit Two, βMany Kinds of Characters,β we will continue to explore fiction books. When reading with your child at night, ask them these questions to enhance their comprehension:
Who are the characters?
What is the setting?
What happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the book?
ββ Math Magic ββ
We will continue with Unit One, focusing on word problems. Students will learn to:
Count on to solve addition problems.
Count back to solve subtraction problems using a number line.
π Spelling Words π
Here are the spelling words for this week: cub, rug, nut, duck, cup, dull, cuff, sun, come, here, to, of.

All You Need to Know About The Fun Run!!!
Our Run4Funds run is scheduled for Wednesday, September 11th. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and we need your help to make it successful!
What is the Run4Funds?
The Run4Funds is an all-school fun-run and fundraiser. On run day, students will run as many laps as possible in 30 minutes around a 1/16th mile track. Students will run with only their grade level, and most will complete about 25-30 laps. This is an enjoyable day for the kids - weβll have a DJ playing fun music and parents are invited to cheer on their kids. Prior to the run, students will request donations from family and friends, as either a dollar amount per lap or a flat donation. Students compete on an individual and class level to earn rewards based on how many laps they run and how much money they raise.
Save the date to cheer on your student(s): Wednesday, September 11th.
