What we learned last week?
Students continued to learn basic multiplication. They practiced multiplication skills by skip counting by 2's, 3's, 5's, and 6's.
Reading:
Students used their knowledge of the texts they have studied to write an explanatory paragraph! They practiced revising skills.
Science:
Students will began their first social studies unit! They learned all about maps and physical features.
What will we be learning next week?
Math
Students will learn the multiples of 10 and modeling multiplication with arrays.
Reading/Writing
- This week students will show their knowledge on the vocabulary we have studied so far. (vocab test this week)
- Student will work on identifying main idea and key details in the book Ocean Sunlight.
- Throughout the week students will practice reading fluently.

Social Studies
Student will the difference between latitude and longitude. Students will learn the difference between the prime meridian and equator.
ESOL
This video is a good way for your children to practice speaking English!
EIP
Ideas for helping students with math homework
- Go over directions, and find out if there’s anything they don’t understand
- Ask her where she thinks she should begin
- Suggest that he draw or make a picture to explain his thinking
- Ask guiding questions like: “What should you do next”, “Is this answer reasonable, “Did you answer the question?”, “Can you solve it another way?”
- Resist the temptation to do the homework for her. Healthy struggle promotes learning.
Reading Specialist Advice
We’re educators who focus on helping students improve their literacy skills(phonics, fluency, reading comprehension, etc). We provide specialized instruction to support students individually and/or small groups. At the beginning of the school year, we evaluate/assess students to identify the needs and collaborate with teachers to determine how to best help students.

IRR
Students should practice skip counting to help them with multiplication!
Here are some activities you can try at home to practice skip counting:
- Hopscotch: Use sidewalk chalk to mark out a grid and play hopscotch.
Read skip counting books: Picture books with activities and problems can help students enjoy skip counting more.
- Make skip counting art: Combine grouping with pointillism, the technique of making art from tiny dots, using cotton swabs and poster paint.
- Building blocks: Ask your child to skip count to a number by making towers with building blocks. For example, to skip count to 15 by 3, they could make five towers with three building blocks in each.

Additional Information
Transportation
If there is a change in transportation arrangements, we require notice from the parent before allowing students to be transported by anyone other than a parent. You may send in a note with your child or email parkstreet@marietta-city.org with the details of the change. We do not allow students to walk or to ride home with unauthorized people. If you must make a change during the day, notify the school office staff before 2:30 p.m.
Pick-up by Car in the Afternoon
Anyone picking up a child must have his/her Panther Car Tag. If you do not have a Panther Car Tag, you may get one by coming to the front office.
Tardy Drop-Off
When a student arrives late (after 8:30), an adult must sign the student in at the office.
Early Pick-Up
Please limit early pick-up of children to emergencies and appointments. If a child is out for any portion of the school day, the missed time is recorded as a tardy. A note sent in the morning will help us to have your child ready. To avoid interruptions to instruction, no student will be released between 2:45 and 3:15. Parents will be asked to wait for the dismissal bell. Come to the office to check out a student. Please be prepared to present photo identification upon request. No student will be released to an unknown or unauthorized person.
Late Pick-Up
Students waiting to be picked up will be supervised until 3:30. After 3:30 they may be sent to the After School Program if they are pre-registered ($10 fee). Regular after school charges will apply. Many parents sign up for the program so their children can attend in case of emergency.
