Peterborough Elementary School
October 6, 2023
Dear Families and Friends,
I hope this newsletter finds you well.
On Wednesday this week, students were treated to a state fair atmosphere during lunch! The lunchroom was decorated with carnival signs and flags, music was playing, and students were treated to carnival fare. Students were thrilled, with many of them saying that, "This is the best lunch ever!" Thanks to the kitchen staff for putting it on.
Our Family Engagement Leadership Team is looking for some feedback from you. We have been planning various family events this year, but we would like to know what you would like to see. Please take a moment to fill out our short survey which can be found by clicking HERE.
Have a great weekend,
Larry Pimental
No School On Monday, October 9, 2023
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday for students. The Conval School District has scheduled four professional development days during the 2023-2024 school year (October 9, 2023; March 11 and 12, and May 24, 2024). During these days, the entire Conval School District Staff will be participating in professional development related to their roles and responsibilities, including building administrators and administrative assistants. There is a significant need for our administrative assistants to participate in relevant training that pertains to the day-to-day systems that are essential to running a school. These programs are consistently being modified and adapted to better suit the needs of schools. As a result, PES will be closed on these days. Thank you for your understanding. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Exploring Our Town
Kindergarten students took a walking field trip today, visiting the Peterborough Fire Department, the Peterborough Town Library, and the Peterborough Post Office before heading over to Putnam Park for a little snack. I am happy to report that they got back before the rain started. Thanks to Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Towne, and Mrs. Warner for taking their students on this adventure. Thanks to our community partners for sharing your space and time with us, and to the parents who joined our classes for the walk.
Music Concert
You may have noticed some signs around town advertising the Ashuelot Concerts coming to the Park Theater. Well, on Wednesday afternoon, students and staff were treated to a music concert here at PES. Ashuelot Concerts performed some live classical music and engaged the students with conversation about the super power we all possess: the ability to learn! Students heard some Mozart Pieces, learned about the composer's upbringing, and asked questions about performing and placing instruments.
Halloween Parade
We are planning a costume parade through downtown Peterborough on Halloween leaving PES around 1:45. Students should come to school in their normal school clothes. There will be time to change into their costumes before the parade, and costumes should be easy for children to put on (please no make up or anything that requires extra ordinary assistance). Because this is a school event, costumes accessories like toy weapons, bats, batons, light sabers, etc. and anything gory should remain at home. Also, some masks can make walking difficult and even dangerous, so please consider leaving those at home as well. If you prefer to not have your child march, please let me know. We will have staff and activities at school for those who remain on campus. As we get closer, more details will be provided. If your child is in need of a costume, please give me a call. I may be able to help. If you have extra costumes that you no longer need, we will take them.
We want your old (gently used) clothes!
If you are like me, you likely have some clothes that you or your children no longer wear. Maybe your kids have grown out of them, your style has changed, or old clothes are just taking up space. You think they are still in good shape and you are hesitant to just throw them in a clothing bin. Well, if you are ready to move on from them, we will take them! We want to host a free clothing shop/swap in the coming weeks where anyone in the community can come in and maybe find some items they could use or want. We will not sell anything, and folks wouldn't have to bring something in to pick something out. We just want to provide a place for people to drop some things off and maybe find somethings to wear. We are looking for used, but still in good repair, clothes and shoes, baby-sized to adults. We will take clean and bagged clothes between now and November 10th. Items that remain with us will not be returned and will be donated. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Title I Feedback
We appreciated your attendance at the Title I Annual Meeting for Families that was presented prior to our Open House on September 28th. Our discussion together was invaluable and important for making decisions together to offer programs, training and/or resources that support our children and families for learning at home and school.
If you did not have the opportunity to join us at the meeting, we look forward to receiving your feedback through this survey (and future meetings) so that we can plan how to meet your needs and make this a meaningful school year together!
We are requesting this Fall Survey be completed by October 13th. Thank you for your time!
