Cell Phone Support
We need your help!
Our students work diligently during the day to complete their work and engage in their learning. Cell phones can be an issue as a distraction from that focus and that is where we need your help as our Innovation Academy families.
Encouraging high school students to limit their cell phone usage during school hours can be challenging, but here are some strategies families can use to support at home:
1. Create a technology-free zone: Designate specific areas of the house, such as the dining room or study area, as technology-free zones during homework or study time.
2. Lead by example: Model appropriate cell phone behavior yourself. If your student sees you prioritizing face-to-face interactions and limiting screen time, they are more likely to follow suit.
3. Establish a schedule: Set specific times for when it's appropriate to use cell phones, such as during breaks or after school. Stick to this schedule consistently.
4. Provide alternatives: Offer alternative activities or rewards for when your student successfully avoids using their cell phone during school hours, such as spending time outdoors or earning privileges.
5. Educate about the importance of focus: Help your student understand the importance of minimizing distractions during school hours in order to focus on learning and academic success.
By implementing these strategies and maintaining open communication with your student, you can help support them in developing healthy cell phone habits during school hours.

Spotlight on School Safety
Our second Lockdown drill of the year was a success. Students practiced safety and security protocols for a Lockdown situation. Please thank your students for how they responded during our safety and security drill. The purpose of the drill was to practice how we respond in an emergency situation. We worked closely with our Medford Police School Resource Officers (SROs), School Marshals, and other law enforcement partners to ensure the training was effective, relevant, and incorporated current best practices. In the Medford School District, we utilize the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) to respond to various incidents. This allows us to have flexibility and a unified response grounded in a common language. SRP commands consist of Hold - Secure - Lockdown - Evacuate and Shelter. We also utilize the ALICE model consisting of Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate at age-appropriate levels. ALICE empowers our team members to respond appropriately to the specifics of the circumstance they may be facing. Your students’ safety is the basis of everything we do. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious resource, your children, and our students. Zack James, Assistant Principal
