Knightly Update September 15, 2024
ACP High School - Edition Vol 4 Issue 10
Welcome to Homecoming Week!! I am excited to be celebrating all that's great about being at Knight and hope that every student will participate in the week's festivities and spirit days. I want to thank StuGo for the work they put forth in planning and preparing for this week's homecoming events. Various events will be held each day to celebrate this year's homecoming. Information about the daily themes and events is included in today's update. If you have any questions about any of the week's activities, please contact the office. Happy Homecoming ACP!!!
I am thrilled to share that 20 members of our senior class have been announced as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists! This is an amazing achievement and with 4% of our school's senior class being named semifinalists, it is the highest percentage across the district. Congratulations to all of this year's National Merit Semifinalists. Absolutely amazing! You can learn more about the National Merit Scholarship and see the full list of this year's semifinalists in our Knights in the Spotlight section of today's update. Congratulations to you all!
What an amazing quarter it's been. Thank you to our students, teachers, and staff for the work they put forth in and out of the classroom throughout the quarter. It's been fun, but I know everyone is ready for a few days off from school. It's a well-deserved break, Knights. Great work!
As this is the final week of the quarter, this will also be the last first quarter edition of our Knightly Update. I hope everyone has a fantastic, safe, and restful break while taking some time to have some fun. We do have numerous events taking place throughout the break, so come on out and cheer on our Knights as they represent our school throughout the intersession. Thank you for your support of our students and school and I look forward to welcoming back our students on October 8th. Thanks for a great quarter, Knights. Enjoy the break, and have a wonderful homecoming! Go, KNIGHTS!

Knights in the Spotlight
Do you know an ACP student, staff member, alumni, or family that deserves to be recognized? Email Mr. Bickes with the information so we can share the amazing news with our school community. Go Knights!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
National Merit® Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) has announced its 2025 National Merit® Semifinalists. The 70th annual NMSC program named 16,000 Semifinalists on Wednesday. These talented Knights have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6,870 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring.
To be considered, students must take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in their junior year. The highest-scoring students in each state are named semifinalists, and the number from each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of all graduating students nationwide.
Semifinalists are comprised of less than one percent of high school seniors nationwide and we are extremely pleased to share that ACP High School's Class of 2025 has 20 National Merit Semifinalists. Absolutely amazing. As a school, ACP has a higher percentage (7%) of National Merit Semifinalists than any other district school. Congratulations to this year's National Merit Semifinalists!!
We were excited to learn that our school's Speech and Debate Team earned significant recognition from the National Speech & Debate Association. ACP has been named one of the top schools for the 2023-2024 school year, ranking 50th out of more than 3,000 schools nationwide. Due to the number of students involved in our speech and debate program, and the degrees they have earned through competition, leadership, and service, ACP's program was named one of the top programs in the nation. This is the most prestigious award the National Speech & Debate Association can bestow upon any school. Congratulations to all the members of our school's speech and debate team!
We are pleased to share that Rabia Unver (class of 2025), received the Congressional Award National Board of Directors highest Award: The Gold Medal. The Congressional Award Gold Medal is the highest honor that the U.S. Congress can give to young people for their achievements, service, and initiative. To earn the award, Rabia had to commit to two years of community involvement and goals setting, while logging a minimum of 400 hours of voluntary public service; 200 hours of personal development; 200 hours of physical fitness; and complete a five-day, four-night expedition or exploration. The Congressional Award recognizes youth who address community needs, grow personally, tackle physical challenges, or embark on great adventures. Congratulations, Rabia, on earning Congress' highest honor for youth!
What is Key Club?
Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. Key Club members around the world are learning how to lead and stand for what’s right through service and volunteerism. In partnership with their local Kiwanis club, high school students are making a positive impact as they serve others in their schools and communities. On the APCHS campus, we strive to provide our students with ample opportunities to participate in service through out the community, both in and out of our school community. We also provide opportunities for students to lead their own service projects to address issues that they are passionate about.
To join Key Club for the 2024-2025 school year, please complete the steps listed in the flyer. All steps must be completed to be added to the roster and to maintain membership. Please note that returning members to Key Club must complete the steps of membership each year. If you have any questions, please reach out to either Mrs. Osterberg or Mrs. Michaelson through Parent Square or email. Thanks!
Legal Documents for Graduating Seniors
Chandler School Boosters has partnered with Keystone Law Firm, in preparing legal documents for parents of graduating seniors. Once a child turns 18, parents no longer have “rights” to make legal decisions for their kids or receive private information, such as health care information, without the child’s permission. The typical cost in preparing these documents can be upwards of $495. Keystone is offering their services to prepare and file the documents for just $35 per student.
Girls in Aviation Day
With more than 20,000 members in 120 countries, Women in Aviation International is the largest nonprofit organization in the world dedicated to increasing the number of women involved in all aspects of aviation and aerospace.
Women in Aviation International is proactively working to address the challenges the aviation and aerospace industry is facing today. In most aviation occupations, women make up less than 20% of the workforce—and for the last 60 years, the introduction of women into the aviation and aerospace industry has been largely dormant. The aviation industry needs more women to pursue aviation careers to access the breadth of talent needed to meet our current—and growing—workforce challenges. Attracting, retaining, and advancing women in aviation is critical to the aviation industry’s safety, sustainability, profitability, and ability to innovate.
Girls in Aviation Day helps to promote these goals and ideals and the Valley of the Sun Women in Aviation chapter cordially invites the young ladies to attend this free event on Saturday, September 21st. See the fliers for additional information and to register.
How to Input Student Service Hours
ACP students provide a tremendous amount of service hours throughout their high school career. The method for inputting and tracking one's service hours has changed this year. All students will now input their service hours through Infinite Campus. The attached document shares the steps students will need to take to input their hours. It is very important that students record any service provided over the course of their entire high school career. They may need to input this information when applying for scholarships, to colleges, internships, employment, or other opportunities during and after high school. Please make sure to enter your service hours via the method share in the attached document. If you have any questions, please see contact the office. Thank you.
If you are able to make your tax contributions early in the year, your donation would be greatly appreciated and give us a jump start on some of our essential extracurricular activities. We have set a goal to collect approximately $50.00 per family for a total of $57,500.00 and hope that you will be willing to help us meet our goal. Thank you for supporting your child and our school!
Tax Credit Basics…
A tax credit donation is a full refund, not a deduction. Contributions eligible for a tax credit are donated directly to schools, not to the state or school district. http://www.cusd80.com/taxcredit
Arizona Law ARS 43-1089.01 enables taxpayers a tax credit contribution of up to $400.00 per year if filing status is “Married, filing Joint Return;” $200.00 per calendar year if filing status is “Single of Head of Household;” and $200 per calendar year if filing status is “Married filing separate returns.” These contributions fund extracurricular activities in public schools and greatly impact our school community and our students.
