NO SCHOOL - MONDAY, MARCH 31ST
Dear CCS Community,
I’m thrilled to share two amazing reflections with you today. First, a heartfelt thank you for the incredible CCS PTO Variety Show last night, and second, an exciting announcement about a faculty achievement that will bring new learning opportunities to CCS next year.
CCS PTO Variety Show: A Celebration of Talent and Community
Wow! Last night’s Variety Show was nothing short of magical. Our students took the stage with courage, showcasing their diverse talents and strengthening the very fabric of our community. The performances reflected three essential elements—Identity, Connection, and Direction—which are central to our work at CCS.
These concepts drive district-level conversations alongside academic proficiency. While proficiency is always important, it flourishes best when students have opportunities to explore their passions and curiosities in a supportive and dynamic learning environment. The Variety Show was a shining example of that philosophy in action.
If you missed the show, you can view the program here and watch the recording here, the same link that allowed families and friends beyond our school walls to watch the livestream and join in the celebration.
Charlotte Central School's Julia Beerworth Awarded 2025 Rowland Fellowship
(See the press release below for details.)
Charlotte, VT — March 24, 2025 — Charlotte Central School proudly announces that Julia Beerworth, an 8th-grade humanities teacher and student council advisor, has been awarded a 2025 Rowland Fellowship. This prestigious fellowship, granted by The Rowland Foundation, supports visionary Vermont educators in implementing transformative initiatives to enhance school culture and climate.
With this fellowship, Mrs. Beerworth will step into a Teacher on Special Assignment role for the 2025-2026 academic year, working beyond her regular classroom duties. She will collaborate with an advisory committee and work across the middle school and upper elementary school to advance project-based learning (PBL) opportunities that empower students as active learners.
A Vision for Engaged and Purposeful Learning
Mrs. Beerworth’s initial focus will be on reimagining Personal Interest Projects (PIPs) for 7th and 8th graders, ensuring they provide meaningful, real-world learning experiences. At the same time, she will guide conversations around developmentally appropriate PIPs in 5th and 6th grade, helping younger students build ownership of their learning.
Additionally, she will play a key role in resourcing, implementing, and evolving Project Blocks across grades 5-8, ensuring students have dedicated time for hands-on, interest-driven exploration. Beyond stand-alone projects, Mrs. Beerworth will collaborate with interested teachers in grades 3-8 to integrate PBL into everyday classroom instruction, helping educators rethink what learning can look like in traditionally structured classrooms.
“This fellowship is an incredible opportunity to co-design learning experiences alongside students and teachers that foster curiosity, independence, and purpose,” said Mrs. Beerworth. “We know students thrive when they engage in meaningful, real-world work, and I’m excited to help shape an environment where that kind of learning is embedded throughout our school.”
Collaboration & Growth at CCS
As part of her fellowship work, Mrs. Beerworth will lead a year of exploration and innovation with colleagues and students. While these initial plans serve as a launching pad, the work will evolve through feedback and collaboration, ensuring it aligns with the needs of the Charlotte Central School community.
“Julia’s passion for student engagement and innovative learning makes her the perfect leader for this initiative,” said Principal O’Leary. “This fellowship will allow her to support teachers, students, and teams in transforming learning experiences across grade levels while keeping student agency at the center.”
Julia Beerworth is the first Rowland Fellow from Charlotte Central School, and she has worked closely with Principal Tim O’Leary, a 2020 Rowland Fellow, to develop this initiative. Together, Mrs. Beerworth’s and Principal O’Leary’s experiences and commitment to innovation and student-centered learning reflect the broader culture of collaboration among the CCS staff.
About the Rowland Fellowship
The Rowland Foundation awards fellowships annually to Vermont educators, providing grants of up to $125,000 to support bold and transformative educational projects. These fellowships allow teachers to take on leadership roles in driving change within their schools. (therowlandfoundation.org)

INTRA-DISTRICT K-8 SCHOOL CHOICE
Children entering grades preK-8 who live in the towns of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George and Williston may exercise school choice. Our goal is to both allow options for families and also make balanced class sizes to provide a positive learning environment for all of our children. Processes for intra-district choice of school will be guided by the needs of students, space availability, and existing resources. Given this, we will work to meet as many families’ needs as possible. Guidelines and Application
