Rising Sophomores and Juniors
This program is open to all rising Sophomores and Juniors who live in or attend high schools located within Illinois’s Tenth Congressional District. Due to space constraints, they will only be selecting two applicants per high school for participation in this competitive program. The deadline to apply is September 30th. In the fall, students selected to participate in the STEAM Scholars program will have the opportunity to join Congressman Schneider on visits to four STEAM-related businesses and facilities during the 2024-2025 school year. On these visits, students will have the chance to participate in discussions with local employees, business owners, and educators, and learn more about the STEAM career opportunities in our backyard.
College & Career Center
- Attending a college visit is a great way to learn about colleges/universities.
- College visits are open to Juniors and Seniors and will take place in the College and Career Center.
- To attend a college visit you must both register in Maia Learning and obtain permission to attend from the teacher of the class that you'll be missing 24 school hours in advance (ie. A Monday 8:30a visit requires registration and permission from your teacher by 8:30a the previous Friday).
Here is the full calendar.

D117 Grading Categories
Beginning this school year, all teachers in D117 will use two consistent grading categories: Learning Tasks and Assessments. This shift aims to provide more clarity and consistency across all classes, helping students and parents better understand how grades are determined.
- Learning Tasks are assignments that help students practice and develop new skills. These tasks are usually done during daily lessons and allow students to engage with the material while building their skills. Examples of Learning Tasks include homework, classwork, participation in discussions, and small group activities, among other practice activities.
- Assessments are used to evaluate a student’s mastery of the skills and knowledge taught. These are more formal measures of progress. Assessments may include quizzes, tests, projects, and major essays or presentations.
