First Week of School
Hello Rees Parents and Students,
We are so excited to begin a new school year this week! I hope you are all re-energized and ready to start learning. Teachers are working hard to have a great year once again. I wanted to share and remind families of some upcoming events and procedures at Rees. Please read everything carefully and check out the calendar at the bottom.
Open House and First Day of School:
We invite all students and parents to meet their teacher and visit the classroom on Monday, August 12th from 3:00-5:00. This will be a great opportunity to meet each other and feel comfortable to start the school year. School will begin on Wednesday, August 14th. Students will need to be in their classroom by 9:15 every day. School Hours can be found at rees.nebo.edu.
Lunch Information:
For those interested in school lunch prices and how to pay for school lunch, CLICK HERE. You can also fill out a Free and Reduced Lunch Application to see if you qualify for that benefit.
Walking and Bus Information:
For students that are in a walking area, please read through our Safe Route Plan. If you are unsure if you are a walking student or in a bus area, you can visit the Bus Route Finder to see if you are on a bus and to see where the bus stops will be and the times for pick up and drop off. If you live in a bus area, I encourage you to have your student(s) ride the bus. Traffic along 400 North and Rees Avenue is very congested. If you choose to drop off and pick up your student(s), please follow all traffic rules and be a courteous citizen as you enter and exit Rees Avenue. We all know how bad it is, don't make it worse by being impatient and rude. 😄
Parents please help your student understand that any poor behavior such as not listening to adults, following the rules, or bullying while walking, riding bikes/scooters, on the bus or at the bus stop, will not be tolerated. While off school grounds, these areas are considered extensions of the school. Any negative report will be investigated and handled by school administration and parents contacted.
Pick-Up Zone & Parking:
We appreciate the efforts of all parents and staff members in providing for the safety of students in our drop-off and pick up zones. Please help us to ensure that all students are accompanied by an adult when crossing through the pick-up zone. Also, thank you for reserving our handicapped parking spaces for those who have need for these parking stalls.
We remind you to please park in a parking stall if you need to leave your vehicles to come inside the school. This allows the flow of the drop-off and pick-up areas to be maintained and keeps vehicles moving forward and not backing up We have great appreciation for everyone’s efforts to increase safety in our parking lots and drop off and pick-up zones before and after school. Please see our MAP for areas for drop of and pick-up on our website under information tab.
Note: By law, bus zones cannot be used as drop off and pick up zones even if there are no buses present!
Rules to be Aware of for Students:
Our goal at Rees is to have happy and safe students. To do that we have a few rules for students to follow while at school. These go hand in hand with our SOAR Rules teachers will be teaching.
- Dress Code- We want all students to have a positive experience while at school. Dress and grooming plays a part in that. Please adhere to the following dress code.
- 3.1.2 In general, clothing must cover from one armpit to the other down to mid-thigh on the front, sides, and back, with no viewable underwear, and must connect from front to back over the shoulders with at least a wide strap. For more information see the full Nebo Policy.
- Electronic Devices-We realize it is a parents choice to give their child a phone or watch for communication. We respect your decision if your child brings these items to school. However, we discourage these items at school. There is risk in being damaged, lost or stolen while at school and they are a distraction and will not be allowed to be used during school hours. These items will be confiscated if abused during school hours and parents will need to pick them up. See Nebo Policy on Electronic Devices. Please do not contact with these devices during school hours. You may call the school or message your teacher if you need to communicate with your child. Students can also make phone calls in the office if needed.
- Electric Bikes/Scooters- We are ordered by the State Fire Marshall to not allow electric bikes or scooters to be stored in the school building because the batteries have a high risk of implosion. If your child plans to bring an electric bike or scooter, it will need to be stored in the outside bike rack with all other bikes and scooters.
- Heely's and Toys- Heely shoes with wheels are also not allowed in the school or on school property due to risk of injury and damage to school carpet. All toys or personal items are discouraged at school due to risk of being damaged, lost or stolen.
PTA News:
We want to welcome our new PTA Board- President McKinsie Dunn, President Elect- Shanna Cooper,
Secretary- Abby Cook, Treasurer- Michelle Vilorio. Our PTA plays a vital part in the success of our school and students. The PTA provides several activities that we enjoy throughout the school year. We appreciate all of you for supporting PTA. We encourage you to join PTA, even if you don't have much time. Being a member helps our school greatly. Please check out the PTA booth at Open House and join! The cost is $7. The first PTA meeting is September 9th at 10:00 at the school. PTA will meet on the 2nd Wednesday each month starting in October.
School Community Council:
We will be holding elections for parent positions for our School Community Council for next year. I will also be sending out more information about School Community Council with a sign-up form.
