Dear Mission View families-
February is here, and it’s shaping up to be a month full of exciting opportunities for engagement and growth! Here’s what’s happening:
Kinder Kick-Off
Calling all future kindergarten families! We’re excited to invite you to our Kinder Kick-Off on February 4th, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. If you have a child who will be starting kindergarten in August, this is a wonderful chance to tour our classrooms, meet our dedicated teachers, and learn more about the programs we offer—including our popular Spanish Immersion Program. We can’t wait to welcome you!
Love of Reading Week
We’re thrilled to celebrate Love of Reading this month, February 10-19, we will be welcoming Guest Readers from our community into our classrooms. This is a wonderful time to foster a love of books and stories in our students. We would love for parents and guardians to join the fun as guest readers in your child’s classroom. If you’re interested in sharing a favorite story, please reach out to your child’s teacher to arrange a time. We will have Spirit Week February 10-14, in Honor of Love of Reading, see below for details.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on February 13 and 14, with early dismissal at 11:40 a.m. on both days. Teachers will be meeting with select students and their families to discuss progress and set goals.
If your child’s teacher does not request a conference but you would like to meet, you are welcome to request a conference. Simply contact your child’s teacher to schedule a time.
NO PRE-SCHOOL CLASSES ON FEBRUARY 13 and 14th.
Rodeo Day Celebration
Get ready to cheer on our talented students at our Rodeo Day Celebration on Wednesday, February 19, at 9:00 a.m. Our students have been working hard with Ms. Jan and Mrs. Campbell to learn some special dances in honor of Rodeo Week.
This is also a Spirit Day, so don’t forget to wear your favorite western wear—think boots, hats, and bandanas! It’s going to be a fun-filled morning, and we can’t wait to see you there. Yee-Haw!
We appreciate your partnership in supporting your child’s learning journey. Thank you for all you do to make our school community a place where students thrive.
Love of Reading - Spirit Week
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
THANK YOU to all who came to our Curriculum Night event on Tuesday, January 28th. We were able to raise $72 as our profit during this event. We also had wonderful volunteers during the event to help us sell items. A special thank you to Mrs. Barnett, Mrs. Fotakis, Mrs. Cota and Ms. Robles for helping during Curriculum Night.
On January 21st PTA was also able to purchase scratch bookmarks for all K-5 students to celebrate the 100th day of school.
At our last meeting, PTA members voted to use some of the money earned to purchase a book for all students for our Love of Reading celebration. Love of Reading celebration will be from Monday, February 10th - Wednesday, February 19th. We are accepting guest readers to come to our classrooms. If you would like to come read to your child's classroom, please contact Ms. Del Valle (esther.delvalle@tusd1.org) or call (520)225-2300. PTA will be using some of the money earned to purchase a small thank you gift for all of our guest readers to enjoy.
Join us for our February Fundraiser event! We will be partnering with Krispy Kreme to raise some "DOUGH" for our school. Each classroom will be competing to see which classroom can raise the most "DOUGH" for our school. We will have a K-2 classroom winner and a 3-5 classroom winner. View the Krispy Kreme fundraiser website and choose your child's teacher
Please join us for our PTA meeting on February 25th at 3:00pm. Snacks will be provided and a raffle for attendees. At our next PTA meeting, we will be finalizing plans for our upcoming state testing which for our 5th grade students begins on March 17th. Please join us in sharing your voice to making these upcoming events successful! We hope to see you at our meeting.

Counselor's Corner
February means Black History Month, Valentine’s Day, and Rodeo vacation! On Valentine’s Day, people focus on appreciating each other and expressing care. Rodeo vacation means we have extra time with family to strengthen relationships. Black History Month causes us to reflect on people in the past that fought hard, each in their own way, for justice and equality. More relationships are stronger because they did so. Our February counseling lessons will be connected to these ideas. The Character Strong trait is honesty. We will also be focusing on that as we go through those lessons.
In education it is well-proven that relationships have a good deal to do with whether we learn. If we feel safe and cared about, we are willing to take the risk of trying new things (learning) and probably failing a few times in the process. Teachers try their best to fit in positive relationship time during the teaching day. We know criticism very rarely encourages change, but encouragement works wonders.
The same is true at home. In the rush of busy schedules, we often forget to say encouraging words. If a child misbehaves, we often forget it might be a cry for attention or frustration that things are not optimal now. Yes, we definitely need consequences as well. But consequences without expressing love and acceptance rarely work well.
In the month of February, let’s all work together to encourage and express our love and support to our most valuable resource: our children. Parenting and teaching are not for the weak of heart! Sometimes when we feel the orneriest, we need the very most encouragement!
Happy relationships!
Your counselor,
Jan Milligan
