Returning Student Registration - 24-25 Returning Student Registration forms are now open for all students. To maintain the most up-to-date information about our students, each year we ask families to verify and update the information of all returning students. Please complete the Returning Student Registration forms in the PowerSchool Parent Portal ASAP (and if you have 10 minutes to complete this today, that would be great!). You can complete the Returning Student Registration on a computer or you can download the PowerSchool Parent app on your mobile phone. Need help logging into your Parent Portal Account? This video will walk you through the process. You can also reach out directly to your school’s administrative assistant. Thank you for your help completing these forms before school starts!

Dear families ~
We continue to have a great start to this school year. Students and staff have been collaborating to learn and practice our school wide agreements in all areas of the school.
We are noticing a kind and respectful environment shaping and a wonderful place to learn.
We look forward to seeing families this Thursday, September 19th for our Flynn Open House!
We will enjoy a PTO sponsored BBQ outside from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm and then we will head inside at 6:00 pm to visit your child’s teacher and classrooms. We hope you can make it on Thursday!
Enjoy this beautiful, sunny weekend! For the children ~ Sally

Library News
SHELF NOTES: a Little Letter from the Librarian
Hello Flynn Families,
This week the “Retired” Library Book cart made a surprise visit to the Kindergarten and first grade recess. Books that are done with their “job” as library books like to be taken to a new home to spend the next “chapter” of their book lives with reading families who will enjoy them.
If you see a sticker like this
The book is really “yours to keep,” just as the sticker says!
You will usually find the sticker covering the spot on the top right corner of the back of the book where the library barcode used to be.
If you have a reader who is sad that they did NOT YET get a chance to choose books from this cart, please assure them that the cart will return to recess on some future sunny day to help some more retired books find new homes.
Happy Reading!
Yours,
Mrs. (Amy) Cudney, Library Teacher
Walking to School Groups
We’re excited to launch two walking groups to help students with getting to school! We will have two walking groups: one that will meet Jill and Ms. Erin (special educator) outside the community center at Franklin Square and one that will meet Mr. LeVar and Kaila outside the community center at Northgate. Both groups will meet at 7:50 and walk to school at 7:55.
Flynn Staff will chaperone the groups for two weeks (the week of 9/9/2024 and 9/16/2024). Starting, Monday September 23rd the groups can continue to walk to school yet there will be no Flynn staff to chaperone the walking groups.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Jill: jeverett@bsdvt.org
Counselor's Corner
Hello Flynn Families!
We are SO excited to be back at school and to see all your little ones (some not so little anymore!) smiles. The students have truly done an amazing job getting back into the routine and embracing their new classrooms and peers. Please read on to read more about your counselors and some updates!
Introductions:
Hi! I am Emily Russen, your grades 3-5 School Counselor. I became a part of this wonderful school community in 2021 and am thrilled to be starting this 2024/25 school year with you! My summer break was a lazy one and I am totally okay with that! Home is my favorite place to be along with the park and having coffee/bakery dates with my 19 month old (she loves croissants!).
This school year I hope to continue focusing on building students' regulation skills toolbox, bullying prevention and safety, and creating and maintaining positive relationships with ourselves and others. I believe in growth and nothing makes me more excited than to watch our students grow, learn, and feel successful.
If you have any questions, concerns, or updates please do not hesitate to contact me via email: erussen@bsdvt.org, or phone: 802-864-8478, ext. 51005. I look forward to connecting with you all throughout the year!
Hi! I am Jill Everett, your grades K-2 School Counselor. After spending years in community mental health with the Howard Center, I transitioned to being a school counselor in 2019. I have been part of the Flynn Community since August of 2022 and entering my third year. I’m excited to be back at school this fall. In Wellness Class, we will continue to work with your learner on feeling identification skills, emotion management skills, regulation skills and bullying prevention. When I am not at school, you can find me out and about with my family. We are a super active family who enjoys skiing, swimming, running and camping. My daughters are entering first and third grade. We also have a 14.5 golden retriever named Frank!
Do You Need a Winter Coat?
Winter is quickly approaching and kiddos are growing even faster! If your family is in need of winter clothing (i.e. Jackets, boots, gloves/mittens, hats, etc) please reach out to our counselors (Emily Russen - grades 3-5 and Jill Everett - grades K-2) or Karen Priebe at the front desk. **A local non-profit is donating jackets and needs specific sizes by October 28th! We will also have a rack/bins of donated winter clothing in the front entrance of the school coming soon. Stay tuned!
