January 2017
Calling All GMS Students!
The Goodrich Middle School PRIDE committee is sponsoring a contest to promote school spirit and school PRIDE! We are looking for students who can create an eye-catching “Martian PRIDE” logo (contest #1) and students who can design a visual representation for what each letter in PRIDE means (contest #2). Please read below for more details regarding the contest rules and submission requirements.
How to Enter the Contest
The contest begins on January 4, 2017. Submissions must be turned into the office, or to Mrs. Simms, by January 31st. A contestant may submit one logo for contest #1 and up to one design per PRIDE letter for contest #2. Winners will be made public via the student announcements and on the school’s webpage.
To qualify, all entries must be:
1. Submitted by a current student at Goodrich Middle School.
2. Submitted to the school office, or to Mrs. Simms, by the deadline.
3. Created entirely by the student submitting the work.
4. Professional - This design may be featured on our school webpage and other mediums (stationary, pamphlets, t-shirts, etc.).
5. Supportive of the mission of GMS, which is to create a positive learning environment that inspires all students to achieve excellence.
The entire contest rules and entry form can be picked up in the school office or from Mrs. Simms, the art teacher.
Friends of Rachel (FOR) Club Searching For Additional Members
Goodrich Middle School began Rachel’s Challenge last year, which includes having a "Friends of Rachel Club" on site. Different from other anti-bullying programs, Rachel’s Challenge exists to equip and inspire individuals to replace acts of violence, bullying, and negativity with acts of respect, kindness, and compassion. Rachel’s Challenge is based on the life and writings of Rachel Joy Scott who was the first victim of the Columbine school shootings in 1999. Through her example, Rachel’s Challenge is making a positive impact in the lives of millions of people every year.
Rachel’s inspiring story provides a simple, yet powerful example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance motivate us to consider our relationships with the people we come in contact with every day. Rachel’s Challenge renews our hope that our life has meaning and purpose. Rachel’s story gives us permission to start our own chain reaction of kindness and compassion, which positively affects the climate in our schools and community.
The goal of the Friends of Rachel Club (FOR) is to keep Rachel's message going and to help create positive change in the school culture and the community. Please talk to your child to see if they would like to join the FOR Club! The club generally meets every other Thursday after school until 4:00. If your child would like to join, please have them attend the next FOR meeting on Thursday, January 12th.
Questions? Please see Ms. Batterbee in the MS office.
