OCTOBER HUSKIE HOWL
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
What Makes Emmett and Shadow Butte Special?
One of the questions I’m often asked is, “Why Emmett?” The answer comes easily: it’s all about our incredible community. While other towns may offer more conveniences or different amenities, what truly sets Emmett apart is the support, care, and love we share with one another.
A perfect example of this can be seen in our upcoming Huskie Hustle. Traditionally, this annual event helps fund field trips for our Shadow Butte students. However, upon hearing about the severe injury suffered by our former student, Reaniel Bustamante, when he was hit by a car at the intersection of Mill Rd. and Highway 52, several staff members approached me with the idea to turn this year’s event into a benefit for his medical expenses. This speaks volumes about our town’s values—once you’re part of the Emmett family, we will always stand by your side, rooting for your success, and offering support in times of need.
We invite you to join us for the Huskie Hustle on October 17th. Whether you choose to donate, volunteer, or simply come and cheer on the kids, your participation is a testament to the strength and heart of our community.

NOTE FROM OUR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS COORDINATOR
Abby Buck - Community Schools Coordinator
Hello Shadow Butte families!
My name is Abby Buck and I am Shadow Butte’s new Community Schools Coordinator. A little about me! I’m originally from the Tri-Cities, Washington and met my husband (an Emmett boy) at college. We lived in Montana for a couple of years, then moved here to Emmett back in 2021. We have 2 (almost 3!) kiddos, love living closer to family, and being a part of this amazing community.
My goal in this new position is to address barriers that students and families face by integrating resources and support. We are learning and growing, hoping to connect more with students, parents, and community members to identify and address the needs of our students.
As a new Community School, we have access to limited funds to use where we collectively see it could benefit our students. I’ve attached a link to our Needs Assessment, and we would love your input and feedback. Please take the time to share your thoughts so we can better serve you and your students!
NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
Bullying Prevention Month
October is Bullying Prevention Month. This year at Shadow Butte we will be challenging students to make a change in our school culture by honoring our core value of Respect. As we encourage students to be respectful of each other through coming together as a school community, you can help encourage this at home. Ask your child if they sat by someone new today? Did they stand up for someone they saw being bullied? Did they include someone new in their game?
Working together as a school and community we can be agents of change and make a difference in the lives of our students.
Red Ribbon Week
DID YOU KNOW?
Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations .
Red Ribbon Week® (October 23-31), the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the nation, is your opportunity to get the ongoing conversation started .
This year’s theme is Life Is A Movie, Film Drug Free.™ Visit www.redribbon.org to learn more about Red Ribbon Week® and get tips for talking to your kids about drugs . The life you save may be that of your own child or a dear friend.
One way our school celebrates is through having fun dress up days with themes related to staying drug free. Here are this year's dress up days:
Monday Oct. 28: "Don't Get Caught Sleeping, Say No to Drugs" Wear your PJs/Comfy clothes
Tuesday Oct. 29: "We Are Crazy About Being Drug Free" Wear crazy socks and crazy hair
Wednesday Oct. 30: "Use Your Head-Don't Do Drugs" Wear a Hat to school

STUDENT HANDBOOK
Please take a minute to locate our Student Handbook https://sbe.emmettschools.org/information/policies-procedures
- Use the QR code or the link below to verify you have seen and read the Student Handbook
ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent for any reason, call the office at 208-365-0877 or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child. Thank you for letting your child's teacher know but they do not always have the time to get the message to the front office.
If doctor appointments are necessary during the school day, please bring a doctor's note for our records.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES - called in by 2:30
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 2:30pm. We cannot guarantee the change can happen after this time.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Pick up Procedures
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
SCHOOL LUNCH
If you haven’t yet filled out a Free/Reduced application, they are available on our website, online on Infinite Campus, or at the school office.
