GATE Pull-Out Program Newsletter
December 2024
Where is GATE taking us?
Curriculum
Our journey in the Cosmic Cadet program was full of challenges. First, we completed physical tests that demonstrated our listening abilities; and physical fitness routines to keep fit and healthy in preparation for microgravity. Next, we showed our strengths in adaptability by solving a navigational problem while in transit to Saturn, and various other adjustments to our normal routines. Then, we demonstrated our intelligence through making observations and conducting experiments while remaining connected to our team during our mission to travel from Earth to Neptune and back again.
Itβs been 16 long years and weβve grown mentally and physically as astronauts. No longer kids, we look to the future and what that will entail for us. As we complete our mission and return to Earth, we reflect on all that weβve learned through the 6 Thinking Hats strategy and how it can be applied in our future lives.
Upon returning from Winter Break, we will begin our journey into Game Design. Working creatively with our SCAMPER thinking strategy, students will flip the tables and change the rules in making existing games their own, and finally creating their own game from SCRATCH.
December Standards
GS1 Students will develop critical thinking skills unique to several disciplines in both cognitive and affective areas.
GS5. Students will develop leadership and interpersonal communication skills necessary for positive peer relationships and social interactions.
