From the Principal
At BES, love is more than just a word—it is the foundation of everything we do. To us, love means care, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to protecting and nurturing every student who walks through our doors. Your children are not just students; they are part of the Battlefield family, and their well-being is our highest priority.
Creating a safe and supportive environment is at the heart of our mission. Beyond providing a strong academic foundation, we are deeply invested in the emotional and physical safety of our students. That’s why we have implemented comprehensive security measures, rigorous staff supervision, and ongoing training to ensure the highest level of protection.
As part of our safety protocols, we conduct:
✅ Quarterly Run, Hide, Survive drills to prepare students and staff for emergency situations.
✅ Monthly fire drills to ensure swift and efficient responses to potential fire emergencies.
✅ Severe weather drills in November and February to equip students and staff with the knowledge to respond to storms, tornadoes, and other hazardous weather conditions.
We understand that school safety is a growing concern, especially with the incidents of school violence we see in the news. You may wonder, Are my kids truly safe at school? Let us assure you that Catoosa County Schools work tirelessly to research and implement the best practices for school emergencies. Each year, every school must submit a safety plan to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) for approval. These plans guide us in conducting emergency drills, hosting table talks to improve procedures, and continuously refining our safety strategies.
Consistent, Well-Practiced Safety Procedures
No matter which school your child attends in our district, our drills are consistent, practiced regularly, and continually assessed for improvement. Fire drills are held monthly, except in November and February when we conduct severe weather drills. Run/Hide/Survive drills occur quarterly, with county office personnel and School Resource Officers (SROs) actively involved to provide guidance and feedback. After each drill, our team reviews the process to identify any areas for improvement, ensuring that we are always strengthening our procedures.
Advanced Security Systems for Faster Response
Our schools are equipped with the Sielox security system, allowing school personnel, county officials, and the Catoosa 911 call center to monitor our buildings in real time through motion detectors and cameras. This system significantly reduces response time in the event of an emergency. If an alarm is triggered, teachers can instantly access live hallway camera feeds on their smartboards, allowing them to quickly decide whether to run, hide, or secure their classrooms. Our local 911 center also has access to these live feeds, enabling direct communication with responding officers. This collaborative, real-time approach ensures that emergency personnel can act swiftly and effectively.
A Personal Commitment to Safety
As both a principal and a father, the safety of Catoosa County Schools is deeply personal to me. My wife, also an educator, and I have always felt confident that our children were safe in our district. I am incredibly proud that Catoosa County Schools is recognized as a leader in school safety across Georgia.
If you ever have concerns about school safety, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or Officer Doug. We take this responsibility seriously and are committed to ensuring that every student not only feels safe but truly is safe in our schools.
We Are Battlefield.

Georgia School Climate Parent Survey
Dear Parents,
We invite you to participate in the Georgia School Climate Survey for Parents, which replaces the Georgia Parent School Climate Survey (GPSCS). Your feedback is essential in helping us create and maintain a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all students.
The information gathered from this survey will assist districts and schools in providing resources and technical support to enhance student experiences and improve instructional outcomes. Your input plays a vital role in shaping policies and practices that benefit our children’s education.
We appreciate your time and support in this important effort. Please take a moment to complete the survey and help us make a difference in our school community.
The deadline to complete the survey is March 31, 2025.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kmccrary@catoosa.k12.ga.u or (706) 866-9183.

College and Career Readiness Indicator (CCRPI)
The College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) is Georgia’s way of measuring how well schools, districts, and the state are preparing students for success at the next educational level. This tool helps parents, educators, and community members understand school performance and identify ways to support student achievement.
What Does CCRPI Measure?
The CCRPI evaluates schools using five key components, each scored from 0 to 100:
- Content Mastery – How well students are learning core subjects
- Progress – Student growth over time
- Closing Gaps – Efforts to support all students, especially those who need additional help
- Readiness – Preparation for the next educational step
- Graduation Rate – Percentage of students graduating on time
In addition to these scores, CCRPI also reports on student subgroup performance, school climate, and financial efficiency.
Our School’s Growth
We are proud to share that our school made significant progress from 2023 to 2024! Our Progress score increased from 76.5 to 88.6, showing strong student growth over time. Additionally, we saw major gains in Closing the Gaps, improving from 52.3 to 73.1, demonstrating our efforts to support all learners. Overall, our CCRPI score rose from 71.2 to 79.2, reflecting our dedication to academic success and student achievement.
We could not have achieved this without the hard work and commitment of our teachers, students, and staff. Their dedication, perseverance, and passion for learning have driven this outstanding improvement. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and excited to continue building on this success!
