Points from the Principal
The holiday season is a time to celebrate the joy of togetherness, the warmth of community, and the many accomplishments of our students, staff, and families.
I am grateful for the support our families provide our school. Together, we continue to nurture a culture of learning, kindness, and growth that makes our school a special place for everyone.
I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas, a restful winter break, and a New Year filled with happiness and success. May your days be bright, your hearts be light, and your time with family and friends truly cherished.
Warm regards, Mrs Atkins
From the Desk of Mrs. Wiley
I would like to clarify the winter dress code that runs from November 1-April 1. There have been many questions.
Since shorts are not allowed during this time frame, exposing skin with holes in jeans/pants is also not allowed. Once April 1 comes along, we will be back to allowing shorts and holes (below the knee) in jeans/pants. I'm trying to be as consistent as possible with this policy. All the students have been very understanding and cooperative, and I appreciate that!
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year,
Mrs. Wiley
Words from a Cop
I hope everyone has a safe and Merry Christmas! Technically not half way there, but most of us see Winter break as that point. For those interested in my stats, I thought this would be a good topic as we reach “half way”. After checking my number of complaints/reports done for the school, I am only 1 shy of last year. 24 and 23 respectively. However, the breakdown (which I won’t go into great detail for legal purposes) is the key point.
One of my goals this year was to reduce the number of accidents in our parking lots. Last year at this time 6 were reported, this year only 2. I refuse to take credit for this. I believe the praise goes to our students for their attentiveness.
Next, our actual crime/violent reports are down as well. I bunched together actual criminal reports with assaults (fights), and threats (direct or indirect to school). Last year totaled 8 at this time versus 4 this year. Again, these are the ones reported. I would like to see this as a 0 for the next half. School officials and I are continuously working on reducing this number.
The last group are generic reports; reports for documentation purposes. This year 17 general reports were reported. Last year 10 general reports were reported. This number does not concern me, nor should it concern parents/staff. There are many things police officers have to document for a number of reasons.
All in all, Swan Valley School District is a great place to work and learn. Other school districts are seeing double, or even triple these numbers. It is safe to say Swan Valley is the place to be.
Stay safe, stay vigilant

Notes from the Nurse.....
Already this autumn season, we are seeing an increase in pneumonia cases.
Pneumonia is a respiratory infection in which the air sacs in the lungs become inflamed and filled with fluid or pus, making it difficult and painful to breathe. It can be caused by a bacteria, virus, or fungus. Pneumonia is often the consequence of a COVID or influenza infection. It is spread through respiratory droplets in the air or from touching contaminated services and then touching our faces (nose, mouth, eyes), similar to the way other respiratory infections are spread. Symptoms include fever, dry cough, headaches, body aches and weakness. However, instead of feeling better within a few days, symptoms worsen and may include chest pain, shortness of breath, a rapid heart rate, shaking/chills and/or a blueish tint to the lips and nailbeds. Pneumonia can be diagnosed per chest xray, sputum sample or blood cultures. Treatment includes antibiotics (for pneumonia caused by bacteria), bronchodilators (to help ease breathing), fluids and LOTS OF REST!! A person with pneumonia may remain contagious for up to 48 hours after starting an antibiotic and fever has stopped, and it may take from one week to one month before full recovery. Untreated pneumonia can lead to a lung abscess, sepsis and ultimately respiratory failure. Some of the infections that can lead to pneumonia can be prevented with vaccines. These include the flu vaccine, the pneumococcal vaccines, and the COVID vaccine. Meticulous hand washing, cough etiquette and immunizations are the best public health measures we can take to keep ourselves and those around us healthy this season!
