#PointerNation News
August 26, 2024
WELCOME BACK, STAFF
All staff return today (Monday) and we are ready to launch into another fantastic school year here in #PointerNation! We know it will be out of this world!
K-5 classes start Tuesday, September 3 and EC-4K begin Thursday, September 5.
CNC MACHINE DONATION
Thank you so much to our friends at the Mineral Point Car Show (especially Lois Federman, Sierra Gunderson, and Adam Federman) for your generous donation towards the new CNC machine for our Tech Ed Department! We can't wait to see what our talented students create!
A CNC machine, or Computer Numerical Control machine, is a manufacturing tool that uses preprogrammed computer software to automate the movement and precision of machine tools. CNC machines are commonly used to machine metal and plastic parts.
HELLO, NEW STAFF
Everyone looks better in blue! Our new staff met last week and received a warm welcome to #PointerNation! A huge thank you to the Mineral Point Chamber of Commerce for organizing donations from local businesses to welcome our new staff! We appreciate the generosity from: American Wine Project, Aspen Ridge, Bargain Nook, Ben Franklin, The Board Shoppe, The Book Kitchen, Brewer House, Cummins, Dan’s Auto Centre, Farmers Savings Bank, Green Lantern Studio, High Street Sweets, Hook’s Cheese, Hotel Mineral Point, Mineral Point Public Library, Mound City Bank, Pendarvis, Red Rooster, Reflections by Molly, Republic of Letters, Sandee Beaman, Scrappin’ with Joni, Shake Rag Alley, Taliesin, True Action Realty-Re/Max, Upland Hills Health, Viva Infusions, Wild Blue Yonder.
NATIONALLY CERTIFIED
Who's a good boy? Bo is! Our middle/high school therapy dog passed his test and is now nationally certified from the Alliance of Therapy Dogs. Way to go!
BAND CAMP
Marching Band Camp is a wrap! Our Pointers have been working hard this summer and are excited to perform for you this fall -- their field show is titled "Let's Dance" and you can check them out at many home football games!
ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCORE
We'd like to continue featuring more of our accomplishments from the 2023-24 school year! For measures that matter, the average score on Advanced Placement exams was a 3.8 (out of 5) this school year, up from 2.7 last year. 24 students were enrolled, taking 35 exams.
Generally, a score of 3 or higher is what it takes to earn college credit.
Advanced Placement courses offer students opportunities to take college-level classes in high school that are taught by their regular teacher. Current AP offerings include: Calculus AB, US History, US Government, and other online courses.
ABOVE & BEYOND
Let's hear it for 6th Grade Above and Beyond Award winners from last school year! Rowan Martin, Cullen Palzkill, and Hunter Robb were selected for helping to make MP Middle School a friendly and welcoming place to be! Thank you!
OUTSTANDING AG PROGRAM
Put your hands together for our very own Mike Robinson! #PointerNation's Middle/High School Agriculture Teacher and Mineral Point FFA Chapter Advisor was honored as the recipient of the Outstanding Middle/High School Ag Program for our section of Wisconsin for 2024 (Section 4, southwest Wisconsin schools) by the Wisconsin Association of Agricultural Educators!
Mr. Robinson has been fortunate to be selected as the sectional winner for WAAE an impressive eight different times in his teaching career!
Congratulations and thanks for all you do!

FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME NIGHT
A reminder to join us for this year's #PointerNation Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony! Friday, August 30 at halftime of the home game vs. Platteville, we will recognize the accomplishments of our 1967 team.
The '67 team ended with a record of 7-1, with their only loss coming at the end of the season after a conference championship had been secured. Many of their games were thrilling, and came down to the final possession to decide the outcome. Picked by no one to contend for the title, the underdog Pointers stunned the conference by beating conference favorites Lancaster and Platteville to stand atop the fourteen team conference, and finished their mission to bring home only the third conference championship, the first in 33 years, for the Pointers' football program.
If you can't join us in-person, the game will be livestreamed at: https://www.youtube.com/@mptvpointers and on the radio at 107.1 fm.
All Hall of Fame members, their families, and MPHS Football alumni are invited to a pregame tailgate at Soldiers Memorial Park from 4:30-6:30 pm. Food and drinks will be available courtesy of the Gridiron Club. There will also a reception at Dodge-Point Country Club after the game.
