Attendance Reminder
Keeping Students Healthy While Supporting Attendance
We want to remind you how important it is for students to be in school every day to support their learning. However, we also understand that illnesses are more common during this time of year, and it’s important to prioritize your child’s health. Currently, our country is experiencing a significant uptick in viral illnesses, including Influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and Norovirus. This has led to the term “quad-demic” being coined to describe the simultaneous spread of multiple viral infections. Click here for a complete Quad-demic Update.
If your child is sick, please keep them home to rest and recover. This helps protect other students and staff while ensuring your child is ready to return to school. To help, please refer to this “When To Keep Your Child Home” guide for deciding when to keep your child home.
Thank you for working with us to make Every Minute Matter!
Extension of the Elementary School Day 2025-26
An Important Message from Principal, Dr. Ma
Dear Ontarioville Families,
Many of you have probably already heard some details about the decision to extend the elementary school day by 20 minutes, starting with the 2025-26 school year. I wanted to reach out directly to explain how it will impact our Ontarioville community. At Ontarioville, this change means that our classes will start 10 minutes earlier - at 8:20 a.m. and end 10 minutes later 2:40 p.m. I want to stress that this change will not happen until Aug. 11, 2025, the first day of the 2025-26 school year.
You likely are curious why U-46 has decided to make this shift. At six hours currently, U-46 has the shortest elementary school day in the state of Illinois. By extending the school day, all elementary students in grades kindergarten through 6th will have increased access to special classes that include PE, art, music, health, digital literacy, and science.
This extension will require shifts in the bus schedule. Morning pick-up times will be earlier and afternoon drop-off times will be later compared to this current school year. The exact schedules for each student who is eligible for transportation services will be available in Infinite Campus in August 2025 before the first day of school. Families who walk to school or rely on their own transportation or a carpool will need to make adjustments as well.
I will send reminders about this change as we get closer to the start of the 2025-26 school year. In the meantime, please review this list of Frequently Asked Questions and offer feedback or ask questions via the online customer service tool Let’s Talk.
I know that this change will impact our families, but I am confident it will have many benefits for our students and their educational experience. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Dr. Elizabeth Ma
Principal
Dress for the Weather!
Students must dress for the weather in order to participate in outdoor recess. Coats, hats, gloves, and appropriate footwear are necessary in cold temperatures. Students who do not wear warm clothes to school when the weather is cold, will not be permitted to go outside and parents will be asked to bring a coat to school. If your child is in need of a warm coat, please have them stop by the office.
Appropriate Footwear for Physical Education
To ensure the safety of your child, please send them to school with gym shoes on days when they have PE. Sandals, Crocs, and boots are not appropriate footwear for PE.
