Food for thought!
Cancer ribbons are used to raise awareness about specific cancers such as lung, breast, and prostate cancers. People wear these ribbons to show support for those facing a specific cancer diagnosis, often during months dedicated to advocacy and awareness.
The well-known breast cancer ribbon is pink, with high visibility and support from celebrity campaigners and sports teams wearing pink jerseys. Purple is common for pancreatic cancer but others in the United States are less common, like the teal ribbon for ovarian cancer.1 In fact, there are more than 50 cancer ribbons that represent individual cancers as well as related issues.
- Breast Cancer Ribbon: Pink (October)
- Prostate Cancer Ribbon: Light Blue (September)
- Lung Cancer Ribbon: Pearl or White (November)
- Colon Cancer: Dark Blue (March)
- Pancreatic Cancer: Purple (November)
- Ovarian Cancer: Teal (September)
- Skin Cancer: Black (May)
- Brain Cancer: Gray (May)
How Many Cancer Ribbon Colors Are There?

- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water to prevent the spread of germs.
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
- Boost your immune system by eating nutritious meals, rich in fruits and vegetables.
- Get enough rest each night to ensure your body can fight off any potential infections.
- Consider getting a flu shot to protect yourself and others from the flu.
- Monitor your health: If you feel unwell, stay home and rest to recover and avoid spreading illness to others.
Let’s work together to keep ourselves and our school community healthy during this seasonal transition. If you have any health-related concerns or need support, feel free to reach out to the nurse's office.

MYP Matters
Q1 Summative Assessments 1 and 2 are EXTENDED and Due October 18, 2024
A summative assessment evaluates student learning at the end of an instructional unit by measuring it against a standard or benchmark. Teachers use these assessments to gauge students' understanding and mastery of the material.
- Examples include final exams, end-of-term projects, and standardized tests, which provide a clear snapshot of academic performance.
Summative assessments play a key role in determining grades, guiding instruction, and shaping future educational decisions. They help educators identify both areas of student strength and areas needing improvement, ensuring that educational goals are met.
