Matt's Message
October 23, 2024
Dear Districts 67 & 115 Community,
This past Sunday, October 20, we had the pleasure of coming together for the Great Full Market at Beacon Place in Waukegan, and I’m thrilled to share how successful the event was for both attendees and our parent and student volunteers. What started as a student-led initiative at Deer Path Middle School has become a community tradition that embodies the spirit of giving.
Our students, staff, and community partners from Districts 65, 67, and 115 worked together to provide Waukegan families with fresh produce, personal care items, and fun activities. This year’s market was made possible through the generous contributions of Quest Food Management Services, Turano, Greco & Sons, and Gordon Food Service. The joy on the faces of families, paired with the dedication of our volunteers, made the event one to remember.
I want to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who contributed their time, effort, and donations to support this year’s Great Full Market. Your generosity continues to uplift those in our neighboring communities and is a reminder of the power of giving back through service.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
Superintendent

New Varsity Field Scoreboard is a Touchdown!
At our final regular season home football game against Libertyville this past Friday, we proudly unveiled our brand new scoreboard at Varsity Field for the first time! Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, this exciting addition made its debut as the LFHS Scouts lit up the board with a thrilling win. Take a look at the installation process below.
Congratulations to Our Illinois State Scholars!
Lake Forest High School is proud to announce that several of our outstanding seniors have been named 2025-2026 Illinois State Scholars! This prestigious honor is awarded to students across the state who demonstrate superior academic potential based on a combination of exemplary ACT or SAT scores and their sixth-semester GPA.
The Illinois State Scholar program recognizes students in the top 10% of high school seniors from 765 schools across Illinois. This recognition highlights their dedication to academic excellence, their commitment to rigorous studies, and their promising potential for success in higher education.
We congratulate our Illinois State Scholar Scouts for this significant achievement and commend them for their hard work and dedication.
Classic Toyota Donates Dodge Charger to Support School Safety
Lake Forest High School is pleased to announce a generous donation from Fred Marks, owner of Classic Toyota of Waukegan and a proud Lake Forest High School parent. Marks has gifted a 2012 Dodge Charger to the school’s Safety and Security Department. The vehicle will bolster security efforts on campus, providing the ability to patrol more effectively and support safety initiatives, protecting students, staff, and the community during school events. This donation marks the third vehicle Classic Toyota has contributed to the school.
Fred Marks, a parent of three Lake Forest High School students (LFHS 2017, 2020, and 2025), has a long-standing connection with John “JT” Teichman, Assistant in the Safety and Security Department. Their bond, forged when Marks was a young athlete coached by Teichman, has remained strong over the years. Marks' donation is a reflection of his desire to support his former coach and the broader LFHS community.
Dr. Matthew L. Montgomery, Superintendent of Lake Forest Schools, expressed his appreciation, sharing, “We are immensely grateful to Fred Marks and Classic Toyota for their continued generosity. This donation not only enhances our safety efforts but also exemplifies the strong community support we’re fortunate to have.”
With this donation, the 2012 Dodge Charger will take on a new life at LFHS, providing essential security services and contributing to the well-being of the entire school community. Read more in the LFHS press release.
LFHS Senior Noel Demetrio Honored at the White House
Congratulations to Lake Forest High School senior Noel Demetrio, who recently visited the White House to be honored by First Lady Jill Biden during the International Day of the Girl celebration! Noel was one of ten young women across the country recognized for their leadership and dedication to making a positive impact in their communities. As the founder of Project Xenia, Noel has worked tirelessly to support refugee and immigrant communities and provide scholarships for Ukrainian refugees. Her recent honor at the White House highlights the difference she’s making locally and globally.
“I would say some universal advice to anyone who wants to make a change in their community is that everyone can offer their friendship and be kind to others. I think that’s something really easy to do for people to get involved,” Noel said.
During the event, First Lady Jill Biden emphasized the power and potential of young women, stating, “Girls are powerful, and no one is too young to lead.” We are incredibly proud of Noel for embodying this spirit and making a lasting impact through her work. Dr. Lenart is a Cut Above as Principal in Residence
Last Friday, if you drove past West Campus on Waukegan, you might have done a double-take at the sight of LFHS Principal Dr. Erin Lenart cutting the grass. Your eyes didn't deceive you! As part of her Principal in Residence program, Dr. Lenart shadowed our custodians and Buildings and Grounds crew.
Reflecting on her experience, she noted, "Custodians go the extra mile day after day. They are in constant 'go mode,' and even when there is downtime, they spend their time organizing and cleaning many of our storage spaces."
Her day included mowing fields and working on fencing projects. Dr. Lenart was particularly impressed by the team's dedication, recalling, "When I was leaving the game at 10:30 pm, I saw them in an empty, lit stadium, cleaning our bleachers. This was after a full day's work."
Her reflections highlight the incredible commitment of our custodians and maintenance staff, who work tirelessly to create a welcoming environment for all.
