The Woodlands High School Theater Department is proud to pilot, and world premiere The Play That Goes Wrong: The HS Edition. This Tony and Olivier award-winning play will be sure to have the entire family laughing. TWHS Theater will be the first school in the world to premiere this version of the show!

Show dates are November 4 - 6 at 7 pm with a 2 pm matinee on Saturday the 6th as well. Tickets are $10 for students/children and $12 for adults. You can purchase tickets at www.twhstheater.com. Hope to see you there for this historic premiere!

TENNIS: Highlander Team Tennis is headed back to State!! TWHS won the Region 2 tournament with an 11-0 shutout of previously unbeaten Rockwall (15-0) in the Region 2 Semi-Finals. The Highlanders followed that with a convincing 10-2 victory over District 13-6A rival College Park in the Region Final. The victory placed The Highlanders in the state semi-finals for only the second time in school history (first time was last year, 2020).

#9 TWHS Tennis will face #1 Plano West in the semis for the 2nd straight year. The other semi-final pits #3 Houston Memorial vs #4 Lake Travis. Goth semis will be Thursday, 10/28/21 at 11:30 @ Texas A&M University. The Finals will be held Friday at 11:30.

SWIM AND DIVE: The Woodlands Swim team competed this past weekend at the Klein JV Invite and Klien High School. The Hammer Dwon award winners for the meet were JP McCullough, Cian Matthews, Molly Sims, and Diana Hass. The Swim and Dive team has their next competition on Friday Nov 5th and Saturday the 6th at the Conroe ISD Natatorium for the Woodlands Invitational. The dive meet is Friday starting at 4 pm while swimming will take place on Saturday at 9 am. Come out and support the defending boys' and girls' state champions!

CROSS COUNTRY: Friday, October 15th, the XC Team rocked the Misty Meadows course with 4 District Championships - Varsity & JV for both the Boys & Girls Teams! Plus, Individual Varsity District Championship Titles for both Kyle Easton and Penelope Gracey, as well as Individual JV District Championship Titles for both Colton Scott and Emma Pool! The Freshmen Boys Team did not disappoint with a stellar second place slot!

Then this past Monday, the Highlanders were at it again – this time crushing the Region 2 XC Championship in Grand Prairie, TX. Both the Girls & Boys Teams secured the Regional Champs Title with an awesome 61 points & 58 points, respectively. Kudos to Kyle Easton for again finishing in first place!

Next on the list is the UIL 6A Texas State XC Championship on Saturday, November 6th. Look out Round Rock – here come the Highlanders!

BOYS BASKETBALL: Boys basketball season has begun. Tryouts will be Saturday October 30th at the main campus from 9-11am. Meet the Players will be at the main gym on Monday November 1st at 6:30pm. Our first scrimmage will be Saturday November 6th beginning with our freshmen at 10:30am. JV will go from 12-2pm and Varsity will scrimmage from 2-5pm. Deer Park and Langham Creek will also be in the scrimmage. We then have a scrimmage at Barbers Hill on Tuesday Nov. 9th for the Freshmen Red, Sophomores and Varsity. Then our season officially begins on Saturday November 13th when we host Alief Elsik with games beginning at 9am. Come out and support our Boys Basketball teams. 9th Grade Guidance Presentations: 9th Grade Counselors have wrapped up their classroom guidance lessons this week. During these lessons, our students were introduced to Naviance, our district’s tool for college and career planning. Students took a Personality Survey that helped to identify their personality type and suggest careers and clusters that might be a good match for them. These results will also help int eh 4-year planning when choosing electives during the course selection process, which will being in January. Counselors will also review goals for freshman year, including developing study habits and how students can start building their high school resume.

10th Grade Guidance Presentations: Main Campus counselors will complete their classroom presentations on Monday, 11/1. We have meet meeting the students through their World History classes. Students have spent time exploring class options and updating their 4 -year plan. Counselors have also discussed AP and Dual Credit classes as well as how to calculate both GPA and Weighted GPA’s. Finally, students have become more familiar with Naviance and had time to do more career and college planning. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student’s counselor.

Seniors are the only students in the Fall semester that may be exempt from final exams for half-credit courses which have a final exam, not a midterm. Students must maintain an 85-100 class average for the semester (18-weeks). In addition, the following criteria apply as well:

1. Seniors must meet the criteria listed above and the discipline requirement listed below. Seniors may be exempt from all their final exams both in the Fall (semester-long courses) and Spring semesters (year-long courses). Seniors may not be exempt from midterm exams in the Fall semester.
2. Underclassmen are not eligible for exemptions from final exams or midterms in the Fall semester.
3. A student granted a final exam exemption must still attend that class during the final exam period and must be present the entire duration of the final exam period to be considered exempt. Students who check out early during a final exam will forfeit the exemption and will receive a grade of Incomplete for the exam. Failure to attend will result in a zero or an incomplete for that course.
4. Any student that has served ISS, DAEP, or OSS while enrolled in a course during the semester of the final exam is not eligible for a final exam exemption for that course.
5. To ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete their exams in a distraction-free environment, the attendance office will not be doing early checkouts during exam periods. Parents and students should plan accordingly so that students remain in their exam period the entire duration of the exam period (both mid-term and final exams).

MEET IN THE MIDDLE: Our next meeting is Monday, November 8th. We meet in room 107 from 2:45 to 3:30 on the SECOND & FOURTH MONDAY every month.
Our club brings together students of differing intellectual abilities for fun, fellowship, sports and service! Join us! MORE: We have an OPPORTUNITY for interested students. Become part of a UNIFIED PAIR to COMPETE in UIL sanctioned TRACK & FIELD this spring. Email dmaberry@conroeisd.net if interested. We also have a unified pair in Kenya that would like to connect monthly with a unified pair at our school for fellowship and eventually partner on a project. (A unified pair or partnership joins a typically developing teen partnered with a student with differing intellectual abilities for competitive activities.

TWHS STUDENT COUNCIL: Student Council is as busy as ever. We just finished Homecoming week and it was amazing. Lots of participation in the dress up days and an awesome parade and community pep rally. We finished the week with an advisory pep rally Western themed filled with amazing performances and lots of spirit. The dance was on Saturday - A Tale As Old as Time - our most well attended Homecoming in the last several years. Student Council is now getting ready for our Annual Food Drive for Matthews Birthday Wish. Matthew is a student in CISD that has set up a charity that helps our community with food insecurities. We will have a contest here on campus for classes who donate the most. We will be collecting non-perishable food items and donations. Donations can be made on the Webstore. Student Council is looking forward to TWHS having a huge impact on our community and beyond. Looking forward to the holidays and our Faculty/Staff Pie Social and Annual Custodial Dinner. Our next meeting is Monday November 1 - 6:00 p.m. in the SR. campus cafeteria.

FBLA: Our next meeting is Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 3:00 pm in Room 245

SCUBA CLUB: Thank you to the students who participated on our first-ever Red and Green Parade float entry (and one which could actually float!): seniors Tyler Druskoff and Alex Winters; junior Parker Cheplick, and freshman John Tiscornia. Many thanks to seniors Rachel Williams and Alex Winters for making the banners, and Mrs. Jessica Ballard and Mr. Richard Cheplick for providing the truck and the boat/trailer!

Congratulations to the following students who completed our “Try Scuba” event this past weekend: seniors Parker Hilborn and Alex Winters; sophomore Mason Myers; and freshman Braeden Smith.

Our next meeting will be Monday, November 1st, at 3pm in LGI 1 at the Senior Campus. Our guest speaker will be Izzy Tyson, a recent high school graduate and current Assistant Manager of The Woodlands Dive Center. She will discuss pathways to scuba certification and career opportunities. You do NOT have to be scuba certified to attend our meetings, plus every meeting you attend gets your name in a drawing for some nice prizes at our December and May meetings. Snacks will be provided!

STUDENT PARKING: Please note that the posted speed limit on the TWHS property is 10 MPH. Please be sure to observe the speed limit as well follow traffic rules such as stopping at intersections and cross paths on the property as well as using blinkers when turning into parking spaces and pathways.

Students assigned parking spaces in the Band Lot (1279-1508) or ROTC Lot (2114-2163) must move their cars by 3 pm every day. Students are not allowed to cut through the church parking lot. Nor are they allowed to park at the church or the neighborhood across the street. You will be towed. If your student needs to leave early, please send him or her in with a note to be delivered to the attendance office before school, during lunch or between classes. Doing so ensures the check-out process will be as quick and efficient as possible.

We still have some students with incomplete vaccine records. If you have received a letter or email from the clinic that your student has overdue vaccines or an expired Conscientious Objector exemption, please take care of it as soon as possible so they may remain enrolled.

If you indicated on the annual health form that your student requires any medications during the school day such as inhalers or Epi-Pens, there are action plans that need to be signed by a doctor every school year and turned in to the clinic before your student may begin carrying their medication. We do not keep medication from year to year, and we do not have any medication in the clinic that parents have not checked in. You are also welcome to check in OTC medications for your student to be kept in the clinic and administered by the clinic staff. We are available from 7-3 on school days.

If your student tests positive for COVID, we ask that you report the positive case in your student’s SSO by going to the COVID Central app and following the prompts there. You will receive information about isolation, attendance, a return to school date, as well as an email confirmation. By reporting the case online, your student’s absence will be excused. Students do need to contact their teachers to come up with a plan to get their missing assignments.

Also in the COVID Central app, you may schedule a free rapid test for your student at the Conroe ISD Police Department. Appointments are available from 8-4 on school days.

If your student has received the COVID vaccine, you are welcome to submit a copy of that vaccine record to the clinic. If your student is exposed to someone who has tested positive and is not having symptoms, her or she does not have to quarantine if we have a copy of their vaccine record on file, or if we have documentation that he or she has tested positive in the last six months.

TWHS Fife 2020-2021 Reprint: Ever want to own a piece of history? Our school’s literary magazine is looking into a potential Pandemic Edition reprint. It contains student produced artwork and writing and follows the theme of the seven stages of grief. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of $20, please fill out this form. JROTC: Congratulations to our cadets who placed at the Tom Bass Score-O Orienteering Meet on October 16th. Over 200 competitors from the greater Houston area participated. Freshman Alex Fernandez placed second in the Junior Male category, and senior Therese Stubblefield placed second in the Adult Female category!

This past Wednesday the 27th, our Drill Team held their first public performance at their Drill Expo. We are so proud of all the hard work they have put in so far! We inducted 21 new members into the Kitty Hawk Air Society on Thursday the 28th. Congratulations to all and welcome to our honor society! Today we hosted a Halloween Hunt for our October Activity. We hope everyone had a spooky time!

Our Orienteering Team is preparing for their next meet, the Challenger 7 Line-O, scheduled for Saturday, November 6. Good luck!

On Veterans Day (Thursday, November 11th) we will participate in the CISD “Salute to Veterans” event at Woodforest Stadium, 10am. Every cadet from all five JROTC units from our district will participate in a ceremony and parade honoring our local heroes. We would love to see you there!

FUNDRAISER TO HONOR VETERANS AND SUPPORT JROTC: Our Booster Club has partnered with Wreaths Across America to both honor our Nation’s fallen heroes and support our organization. EVERYONE is welcome to purchase a wreath which will be placed on a veteran’s grave near Christmas time. The wreaths will be delivered to the national cemetery in Houston automatically--no work involved on your part. Volunteers place the wreaths. Our Booster Club receives a portion of the proceeds. The artworks are purchased through funds set aside by Student Council from the Homecoming Dance, however, the framing, lighting and conservation of these pieces need funding. Consider helping with that funding and show your support for The Woodlands High School Art Trust by joining our "One Hundred Friends of Art." The Woodlands High School Art Trust (TWHSAT) a 501(c)3 organization, was established in 2011 to help maintain, conserve and display the student-selected, student-purchased collection of established artists at The Woodlands High School. We currently have 49 pieces by 44 Texas Artists in our collection. The vision for the TWHS Art Trust is to see the art collection grow each year and to have it extend through the hallways of the high school. Pre-COVID we offered FREE tours of our collection to schools and other groups by appointment and we hope to resume these tours as soon as we are able.

Other than the public sculptures around The Woodlands, this is the ONLY permanent collection of art available to the public. It is seen by THOUSANDS of people every day. Please consider supporting this unique collection that sets us apart from other public high schools and strengthens our goal of being one of the best high schools in the state and country.
