December 23- January 3: Winter Break- No School
January 6: Emergency Day/No School for students
Dear WELC Families,
It has been a busy month at the WELC! Children have been enjoying the fall weather and playing outside in the leaves. They have been learning about fall, harvest, and talking about things they are thankful for!
There are so many things we are thankful for here at the WELC. First and foremost, seeing the children come to school every day with smiles on their faces! We are also thankful for our staff that provide a nurturing environment where children feel safe to explore and learn. Most of all we are thankful for the families who share their children with us.
This month Wagner Farm visited the WELC for a "Day at the Farm" experience. Children had the opportunity to participate in shelling and grinding corn which focused on what farm animals eat and how farmers help feed them, and egg candling which focused on how farmers prepare eggs for sale and the difference between a fertilized egg with a chick and an egg we eat. They also learned about bees and how bees locate their food sources. The children had so much fun!
For the month of December, children will be learning about winter weather and discussing winter activities! Please remember to dress your child according to the weather. We try to go outside every day, weather permitting. During the winter, if we are not able to participate in gross motor activities outside due to cold temperatures or ice, children will be able to play in our multipurpose room!
Sincerely,
Valia Garbis
Principal of The WELC

Wagner Farm Visit!
Parking lot
We want to thank all the families for their cooperation and support during drop off and pick up. The parking lot staff is doing their best to direct you to open spaces and we thank you for following their directions. With the colder weather approaching, we ask that once you drop off your child, if you can please head back to your car so we can get another car to go into your spot, that would be great. Thank you once again for all your support during arrival and dismissal this year!
Learning Links
Thank you to everyone who has come to visit Learning Links! We hope you and your child(ren) are enjoying the boxes and totes you have been taking home. Just a reminder that all Learning Links boxes and totes must be returned by Friday, December 6, 2025. We will reopen on Monday, January 13, 2025 for you to come and choose your next box or tote!
Parent Volunteers
Would you like to be a parent volunteer at the WELC? The 2024-2025 school year has started and we are looking for parent volunteers. As a volunteer, your help and dedicated support will enhance and enrich the lives of our WELC children. Do you like to read to children or help a teacher with their class projects? If you would like to be a volunteer, please fill out the application: https://www.applitrack.com/d62volunteer/onlineapp/

Notes From The Health Office
Please remember that if your child will be absent from school to call the main office at 847-824-1065.
A temperature of 100 (F) or greater is considered a fever and a student may not be in attendance. They have to remain at home until they are fever free (with no medication) for 24
hours. If your child has diarrhea or has vomited, they need to be diarrhea or vomit free
for 24 hours before they can return to school.
Lastly, please make sure that your child has a change of clothes at school.
Thank you,
Mary Fitzpatrick, WELC RN (fitzpatrickm@d62.org)
Amy Kelly, WELC Health Clerk (kellya@d62.org)
Mini School
This November, Mini School gave thanks to those around us. Our families joined us in creating their own family trees and we displayed them for our class to see! The children also created picture frames made out of popsicle sticks. We created “Thankful turkeys” and used feathers to paint with. We stamped corn cut outs using leggos and glued them onto corn stalks as well. The children explored Wagner Farm when they visited our WELC! We learned about corn, chicken eggs, and how bees make honey. Children were given the opportunity to paint using materials and symbols that are found on a farm! Happy fall from Mini School!
SPARK- Preschool
This month, the SPARK three-year-old classrooms learned about fall, farms, and harvest! We observed and discussed the changes that are happening outside. We talked about farms, what animals live there, what kind of food is grown, and what it means to harvest food. We also had a visit from Wagner Farm, so exciting! The children learned about bees and how they make honey, how to shuck corn and grind it up for the chickens to eat, they got to try a one hundred year old washing machine, and they played a game with a hen puppet and an egg.
SPARK- Jr. Kindergarten
During the month of November we talked about fall and things we are thankful for! We observed and drew pictures of the trees changing. We also talked about words we see in the fall and worked on a fall word book. We made a thankfulness turkey where they added five things that they were thankful for. We put together another turkey using various shapes and the children noted how many of each were used.
STAR Preschool
This month the STAR team has been learning more about the season of fall and how trees change throughout all seasons. We have all been able to carry out fun hands-on activities related to fall and investigate what types of things grow and live in trees. Our dramatic play centers have been turned into farmers markets where students are able to pretend buying fruits and vegetables with their classmates. Our November goal was to be open to trying new things and we provided ample opportunities inside the classroom for students to explore different topics related to all domains of development. We were so lucky to be able to have Wagner Farm visit the WELC this month and students were able to learn all about animals and the types of jobs farmers do during the day. Students had a blast and had the opportunity to paint, grind corn, wash clothes, and play fun games!
SNP
This month we learned about pets, bears, turkeys and things we are thankful for. We were able to compare which animals would make good pets and which are better for the woods (bears) and farm (like our visit to Wagner Farm at the WELC). When exploring with pets & bears, we talked about what would make a good home or place to rest, sorted by size & type and practiced counting. As we learned about bears, we discovered that they are getting ready to hibernate/sleep for winter (our next season), that polar bears love to be where it’s cold and we even asked if anyone has ever seen a real bear? Our favorite bear of all seemed to be teddy bears! We ended this month learning about turkeys, explored with feathers and learned about things, people and activities we are thankful for. We hope everyone has enjoyed November (it went by very quickly) and that you are able to spend time with family and friends during our break from school.
