Welcome!
Hello WMS Families,
I hope your long summer days have been fun and that you have found ways to keep cool. I enjoyed a wonderful vacation with my family, and am now here at WMS excitedly getting ready to welcome students back for the new school year. I am writing to introduce myself as the principal at WMS, and to share some quick updates.
As I meet staff, families, and community members, I can sense how strong the bond is among the people in Watertown, and I am thrilled to be joining the team to ensure all students have equitable experiences and opportunities in middle school.
I will send my next family update as we get closer to the start of school, and plan to send weekly updates during the school year. I am looking forward to meeting all of you soon.
Respectfully,
Ms. Jennifer Chen Fein
Principal
Watertown Middle School
jennifer.chenfein@watertown.k12.ma.usYou are invited to...
August 29: Popsicles with the Principal
August 30: Tour Watertown Middle School
School Tours will be on:
Morning, August 30th at 9:00 am
Afternoon, August 30th at 3:00 pm
We will meet at those times in the WMS Auditorium for a brief welcome and overview of middle school and a Q & A session. Please enter through the Waverley Street entrance.
After the Q & A session, we will break into smaller groups and tour the school. We will have some 8th-grade experts join us to share their knowledge of WMS!
ALL students are welcome to come with their families! We know there are many entering 6th graders who are excited to see the building and start learning their way around. We also welcome any 7th and 8th graders who are new to Watertown Middle School or would like to refamiliarize themselves with the school.
We look forward to seeing you on these two tour sessions! The custodians have been working tirelessly to get the building ready for everyone, and it's starting to shine!
If you have any further questions please feel free to contact Mr. Patrick Dayton (617) 926-7783, patrick.dayton@watertown.k12.ma.us
Additional WMS Summer Updates
- Check the mail soon: Beginning of School placements and forms will be mailed home to the address on file toward the end of August. Students will receive their cluster and advisory placement in the mail and will receive the rest of their schedule on the first day of school. Students and families are reminded that cluster placement is a complex process made with a team of dedicated and knowledgeable educators. Opportunities to see old friends happen on and off cluster, and one of the best parts of middle school is the opportunity to make new friends.
- WMS Leadership Team: I am excited to announce that Patrick Dayton will be the interim Assistant Principal for the beginning of this school year, as Susan Carle is out on parental leave. Collectively, we are working hard with Jen Sarmiento, our new Assistant Principal, to prepare WMS for the new year.
- Summer Work Reminder: Here is the link for the SUMMER WORK website. There is a navigation video at the bottom of the homepage if you have any questions. There are grade-level math activities as well as the One School One Book Information. Some teachers have a supply list at the website, and the rest of the supplies will be communicated in the first few days of school. It is a good idea for students to arrive with basic materials including: pens, pencils, notebooks, and a fully charged chromebook. Reach out to your child’s guidance counselor (see below for contact information) for information regarding supplies available at WMS for students and families who may need them.
- WMS Parent Teacher Organization: The WMS PTO is seeking parents and caregivers to join this year. Meetings are held virtually on the second Wednesday of each month. The first meeting will be on September 14. Reach out to the PTO President Erin Macomber at erin_macomber@neds.org with any questions or to express interest.
- Free Breakfast and Lunch Continues this School Year: Governor Baker has signed into law a one-year extension of School Meals for All for the 2022-2023 school year. This allows all students in Watertown to continue to receive free breakfast and lunch on a daily basis.
- Fall Sports Information Meeting: Will be on September 7th at 6pm in the WMS Auditorium.
