The Sabin Star
June 13, 2024 Volume #2 Issue #16
Message from the Principal
Dear Sabin Community,
As I sit here with a hand cramp from signing yearbooks and a permanent smile from the pride I feel for each and every student and their accomplishments this year I can't help but feel thankful. Thankful that you trust the Sabin team each day with your most precious treasure. Thankful for the support you have given to the teachers, the school, and to one another.
Our PTA has many openings for the fall and we need YOU to help us keep this important community group happening. PTA supports all the amazing activities, evening events, classroom resources, Fun Friday, field trips and much much more. Your involvement is critical to maintaining and growing our school supports. If interested in being a part of PTA please reach out to Sarah Bokich at smbokich@gmail.com
Please take care of yourselves and your family this Summer. hHelp your student grow their skills through reading, opportunities to discuss math in your everyday life, asking open-ended questions and spending quality time together.
Thank you for a great year. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.

PTA needs YOU!
Calling new leaders for the Sabin PTA!
From academic support to community events, Sabin’s PTA provides essential fundraising, organizing and volunteer support to enrich our school community and support the well-being of students and teachers.
We need Sabin caregivers to step into the roles of President/Vice-President, Secretary, and Room Parent Coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year. Roles can be shared if you’d like to partner with another community member!
Please reach out to Sarah Bokich at smbokich@gmail.com with interest.

Summer Resources and Fun
Still looking to fill a few holes in your summer camp calendar?
A Sabin parent has created this resource for locating Portland summer activities.
We are so excited to share that School's Out, www.schoolsoutapp.com, is now live in Portland!
Our mission is simple: 'Search, schedule, share activities for your kids--all in one place.' Our platform allows parents to filter summer camp activities based on key criteria like age, date, activity type, before care/after care, special needs accommodations, scholarships, and more. It's completely free for summer 2024, and with over 500 activities listed (and more being added all time!) you are sure to find a great fit for your child. The initial launch focuses on the summer months, but we will be expanding year round very soon.
Questions? Feedback? give us a shout: hello@schoolsoutapp.com.
Pride @ OMSI
OMSI is having a Pride event on June 21st, 6 - 10. See the event page for more info and to purchase tickets.
Summer Free For All
Summer Free For All builds community through free, inclusive, and family-friendly activities that celebrate Portland's diverse cultures and local artists.
First Thursday in the Pearl District
Starting in 1986, First Thursday in the Pearl is a district-wide celebration on the first Thursday of each month. Originally a gathering of art collectors and dealers, the celebration has grown to a monthly event of over ten thousand people, including art enthusiasts, wine aficionados, and scenesters looking to see and be seen.
Art galleries in the district are open late into the evening for receptions and new show openings. Many galleries offer food and drink, while the artists showing are available to meet and discuss their work. On pleasant evenings, the streets are packed with artists selling their creations and musicians and bands playing live music on many of the closed-off streets.
Parking gets very difficult in the area on First Thursday. It is recommended to take public transportation to the Pearl or park nearby and walk into the neighborhood.
A Message from Ms. Hidle
Hello Sabin Community!
Mrs. Hidle is currently looking for childcare for her 2.5 year old this fall. If you have an in-home daycare or any leads please email her at chidle@pps.net. Thank you and have a safe and fun summer!
Dinner Table Questions
- If you could pick up a new skill in an instant, what would it be?
- If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
- If you could live anywhere in the world for a year, where would it be?
